Found a used LE trade in at my LGS and it's $299. It's a S&W 4046. 40 caliber.

Thought about striking a deal and trading in my cheap hi-point towards it and hopefully paying only $150 or so for the gun. I know they're heavy but it's gotta be more reliable than my hi point for ccw.

Anyone know much about them? It's a DAO gun, 9 round cap single stack mag.

The 3rd gen S&W guns are good pistols. Never been a fan of the DAO guns. Takes some getting used to, but if you can shoot a revolver DA, then its not too different. I had a 5906 S&W and loved it. Sold it to my uncle to buy an M1 Carbine.

A guy can try, though right?

Smiths third generation pistols are great guns but I wouldn't want a DAO unless I could shoot it first. I'm wearing a CS 9 at the moment and it has the nicest stock TDA trigger I've ever shot.

+1 on the High Point - it may be hard to trade.

The price is in line , the 4046 will be way better than the Hipoint. You will be lucky to get $34-40 on the Hipoint for trade. I would sell it yourself, just be careful who you sell it to.

Keep in mind the Smith will have a magazine disconnect safety. You may or may not care if this will be your CCW.

My S&W 5906 (3rd gen) has been reliable, accurate and a pleasure to shoot. They're built well and will outlast you...

I saw a gun dealer in Spencer Ia pay $200.00 for a used Hi-Point 40 cal back in October so don't let anyone tell you it's not worth anything Hi-Points have taken a big jump in price lately

That dealer must know more about guns than business since you can get brand new Hi Points, shipping included, for 164 bucks from Buds Gun Ship online.

If he gets 75 bucks, he will be lucky since if its immaculate used, its a 100 retail gun.

Yeah, new Hi-Points in my area are $119 for the .380 and $139 for the 9mm and .40. Selling a Hi-Point privately would probably get you more than a trade in. All depends on your area though. My LGS will usually buy used guns at 75-80% of what they will then ask for it.

Oops looks like it was a 4054, only a couple hundred made. I'm not a collector though, but it's a decent piece. $275...

That seems cheap for a 3rd gen S&W, but I'm no dealer...at that price I would buy it in a heartbeat!
