service writers lie and pretend to know stuff

I believe he was saying eg. "you cant take your Buick to a Chevy dealer for regular warranty service"

As for the rest, I can vouch for it. The mfg has a lot of control of how you do business at a dealership. That doesn't excuse bad service in MOST cases though.

Chrysler is pretty much the same... but with worse warranty times!

Rabbler brings up another sore subject. Warranty times.

There's a recall on older Grand Prix and Regal models with supercharged engines to replace one of the valve cover gaskets.

The warranty labor guide gives 1.0 hours for replacement of the gasket. Yet when we get the recall the same job only pays .8. ?????

And if there's a mass recall on a part, the price suddenly goes down on the part. Another way of ripping the dealer.

Now they have instrument cluster problems which they are covering for 7/70 on some models. But they won't let the dealer make any profit on selling the cluster. They send it to you so you don't get the normal warranty parts markup.

By the way, GM is getting sued by the dealers on a class action lawsuit for that one.
