As the sun is now officially over the yardarm, I have poured myself a glass of fizz to celebrate the happy event!

They didn't have the £40k to fireproof Grenfell Towers and save many lives, but they do have the £300k to make a show and dance about a wedding that nobody cares about.

Errrr...are we talking about THE David Icke??? Former nice, middle-class, English sports presenter who went completely loony and thinks the world is ruled from space by a race of lizard people?? Is he still alive and raving?

I am, yes. He's entertaining, and comedic.

5 pages? Well here is my post. I'm joining the nonsense.

Americans don't care. And they shouldn't. And the world shouldn't care either. And the peasants of the crown shouldn't either.

I arose at 4 to be a good sport with the wife. Watched the BBC telecast and what I enjoyed the most was the proper use of grammar and proper English. All announcers were courteous and professional and formal without being stiff or forced. Head and shoulders above the US coverage.
I don’t disagree with the previous comments about the monarchy but don’t agree with painting all of the crowd with such a broad brush as to denigrate them.
A small breath of fresh air from the usual junk on TV. And yes, I’m aware it can be turned off. 😎😎

Did anyone notice Harry and Meghan driving away in a great Jaguar XKE.......................... left side drive?

I really do get it that so many of you (especially you Yanks) don't get royalty & The Crown and all it means, so I'll try and explain...

Britain is an old country. We have seen & endured a lot. We have throughout our history been involved in conflict and faced at times, ridiculously overwhelming odds. We saw off the Spanish Armada when the Spanish Empire was at its peak. We fended off Napoleon when he had the whole of Europe subjugated. We beat The Kaiser when logic said we should have lost and repeated the trick twenty years later with Hitler. We never got down in the dirt to settle things but had it come to blows, I reckon ALONE, we could have could even have put up a decent show against Ivan! (at MASSIVE cost to ourselves obvs).

How do we do this? Well it's partly that we put a lot of effort into cultivating powerful friends (like Portugal, the Dutch, the Prussians, France, the US and the Sovs). We also stubbornly (sometimes insanely) refuse to be beat and part of this happens because we can collectively, as a nation, coalesce around one thing...The Crown...because in embodies what we all are & have in common.

And if you think this is all just sentimental claptrap, try to imagine the USA facing, for the first time in its short history, a genuinely scary threat from an enemy that is bigger, younger and way better armed than you. Who are you going to coalesce around? Your recent heads of state, George W, Obama & Trumpski are hugely divisive figures. In such circumstances, having a neutral monarch whose very purpose is to exemplify what we all share in common ain't such a bad idea!

Now think on...

Some good points, but if you think the Brits would have won WWI and WWII, and the Cold War without overwhelming US support, you are sorely mistaken.

I think the shame was having was having a man who could have been your best king in a few lifetimes abdicate the throne in the WWII time frame because he wanted to marry an American divorcee. I am glad to see we all collectively have gotten over that little taboo.

That's sort of my thought.

Also wondering what folks in Germany think of this, after all, look at the Royal Family's roots...

Its interesting from a procedural and traditional perspective. But I'll get the recaps, wasn't worth getting up at 3am to watch.

I read that the "royal family' is worth 88 BILLION dollars.....I guess it would be pretty easy to "relate to normal people and have your head screwed on"*** with that kind of cash....While I usually don't agree with the French...I do in this matter....'mascots' don't have to cost so much....bring on the guillotines....

***In my opinion they are just playing up to the media for approval....if they let their true feelings of superiority be known they would be ostracized by the press.....
