Thought they had a decent NMMA 4 stroke outboard oil - used it twice and then it was discontinued

Their claim to fame was Synerlec. I remember years ago RP having great TBN retention and a high starting TBN. I don't know anything about their product line now. Some of these boutique brands years ago banked on having higher amounts of ZDP at the time when the API oils were continuously going in the other direction. The industry was and has been moving towards less metallic additives and lower ZDP while using newer innovative anti-wear chemistries. Unless you have a flat tappet CAM engine, these oils are of little value today which sort of makes them irrelevant in today's market with so many high performing synthetics available at the retail level. Of course RP is sold at WM so they must be doing ok.

Many of the boutique products, just like in the detailing world, are just not worth the hype. The excuses they used to make to sell their oil was a turn off for me.

When I read threads on RP here on BITOG, there often seems to be misunderstanding about the products. For instance, this thread is about its modern SN plus line. They have never claimed Synerlec to be in their licensed line. This is totally separate from their HPS and HMX oils, which are not licensed, but still available and still with Synerlec and likely a bit higher zinc and phosphorus. Also, if you check their website, their product info sheets have been recently updated and the specs such as TBN, VI, pour point, etc. on their HPS line seem quite good.
I'm not a RP fanboy, but I have used several of their products over the years, and, apart from their gear oil have been pleased with them.
As someone noted above, they used to offer a marine oil and I still have a stash that I'm using in my Waverunners. Good stuff.
With all that being said, don't know I would buy their SN plus oil unless it was priced similarly to other mainstream products.

Probably wasn't very popular. RP is really known more in racing and industrial more than anything. I think it's too late for them to gain any market share beyond anything industrial or automotive. I got their Synfilm air tool oil and that stuff is pretty good. They still make it.
