Hey bitog.
Got a new jug of Magnatec d1G2 for my next OCI and here's what I find interesting.
The container does say "exceeds SN plus", but the round "donut" (or how do you call it?) only says API SN.
Just checked a jug of Napa Synthetic that I have and it clearly states SN plus there.
Not that my car really cares about SN plus, but I just wonder if that's just a way to save money on sn plus certification but still let consumers know it kinda meets it?
PS sorry for the pictures quality

d1g2 is more important than SN+

The Magnatec is probably an older jug from before they were allowed to officially claim SN+ on the donut

If its D1G2, doesn't it automatically exceed SN+, as its a more stringent requirement?
The bottle of GTX HM I bought a bit ago has the same type of label.

I'm so confused which one is more important for my car - d1G2, SN plus, A5/B5 or smth else

Decided to stick to this one for now as it has lower NOACK and excellent results here on bitog

You didn't look prior to buying - to see it only had SN?
You bought old stock.
Take it back. Buy the black Edge with both specs on the label. Nice VOA/UOA here on it..... robust.

More important to change the oil often and buy low Calcium oils. SN Magnatec has more Calcium than SN Plus.
The black Edge has only around 900 Calcium and a whopping 1300 Magnesium. High Phos and Zinc too, with a taste of Titanium.
Yummie..... so-so good!

Use it in good faith.

Got it for $9 with Amazon's "subscribe and save" and 40% off first delivery. SN plus or not, it goes in haha

Not old oil, old jug. They don't want to throw out all that plastic for the .001% of customer base that follows this site. No worries.

Magnatec is good oil. I've considered it due to my short commute to work.

My son did that (2 miles to work) … 5w20 MT was thick and black in 3k …
Went to Quaker State Ultimate Durability or M1 and doing better (2013 Pentastar) …

Interesting. What do you attribute that to?

This.... All day everyday... I bet these are older containers still in circulation. Newer ones will have the new specs and oil in them.

Not sure … we started out to just change the gear oil (Valvoline Syn 140) and checked the hood … dipstick was a corn dog and pretty lumpy under the cap …

Online shopping tells us if it's SN or SN Plus..... or I don't buy it!
You need to be more aggressive and it's not gooder or goodest, unless you get it right for your GDI.
