Road trip with 4k miles on oil already

Well this is BITOG and we are on page 4 already so.....

If it's not totaled already, it will be.  🤪

Seriously just check everything before you go. Check when you fill up. Maybe bring a quart of your favorite oil to top off if needed. Has it burned oil before? I was going to say the same as great opportunity to run some BG44k or Gumout Multi-system.

Pre flight checks for me are mandatory so oil, washer fluid (for expected temperatures), air pressure and tread depth (also the spare tire), clean windows inside and out, rain repellant on outside, check all lights. I do all those on a normal basis so if I need to go somewhere in an emergency I can go. All the above takes me about 5 minutes as it is at a good level.

My daughter was headed back to school next morning so all those were done. Tire pressure check showed one low, not at TPMS trigger yet. Nail in tire but had time to get it fixed so I wouldn't need to worry.

I did something like this with my 2GRFE a couple years ago. I had around 2500 mi on the oil change and was getting ready to go on a 4500 mi trip out to South Dakota and back. By the time I made it home I had over 7,000 mi on the oil change. I was kind of surprised at how dark the oil was at that point but I didn't have any troubles at all. At that point I was running M1 0w20 in the engine, now I am running 0w40.

You really think that the engine is going to blow up just because he doesn’t change the oil on this trip? Surely you can’t be serious….
Na I don’t trust those dudes especially with a previous owner installed an oversized self tapping drain plug on the oil pan, I’m trying to avoid any potential leaks right before a trip. Plus they would run some 5w30 stuff i want some euro 5w40

I be more concerned with taking a car built in 1994 on a road trip doing 90 MPH then oil change but that's me
Plenty of cars from the 80s and 90s can run 100mph sustained 24/7. OPs car is one of them. OPs car also has real, hydraulic boosted steering, unlike the dangerous, numb, nonsensical feedback EPA mandated electric steering that kills people daily. There are a lot of reasons the crash rate is increasing. Electric steering is at or near the top of the list.

Four pages already... I sure hope you took your trip a;ready....:p

I don't think there's plenty of cars from 80/90s on the road today I would trust to go very fast from what I see there held together with duct tape and rolling on 4 baloney skin tires

I’d trust the ls400 on a long road trip over any garbage made today
Peak auto was somewhere around 1997-2006ish. Those cars weren't perfect, but they could have been in a few more years. Instead 2007 is where everything started to go downhill.

It happened in increments from 2007 on to get us to where we are now. The astonishing quantities of added weight, remarkably dangerous electric steering, the insane loss of visibility, addition of confusing distracting and deeply flawed electronic nannys everywhere, complete loss of tactile control ergonomics, loss of suspension feel and information transfer, blinding lights and screens all over the dash at night, blinding LED headlights from all the other drivers, visual point of view higher and higher off the road... on and on. Can you imagine trying to implement the old Saab dashboard that turned off all dash lighting unless there was an issue? People would lose their minds without a hundred LEDs and multiple screens burning out their night vision! MUST HAVE BLINDING DASHBOARD!!!!! MUST BLIND OTHERS WITH LASER BEAN HEADLIGHTS!!!

I understand how more people don't realize how horrible modern cars have become. I didn't see it for a long time. Then I randomly had to drive a mint condition '97 a few years back, and the giant huge burning flashbulb in my brain popped off. I had been buying new cars like candy, wondering why I just didn't like driving any more, and figured I was just getting old. I would be bored with a new car in a week, didn't matter what it was. Driving that '97 reminded me of everything we lost that made driving engaging and fun, and kept us alert to our surroundings, the road surface, and what we were doing. We're in the 1970s all over again, much worse even, with extra huge helpings of big brother and big mommy, and giant lies surrounding every aspect of it.

But people love the lies, and freak when you try to point them out. EVERY SINGLE CAR AND TRUCK TODAY FEELS AND DRIVES EXACTLY THE SAME AND THEY ARE ALL TERRIBLE from the lowliest Nissan to Porsche GT3 to a middling F150. Terrible every one. And I didn't even mention long term reliability, which is dropping darn close to 1970s levels. At least the 70s cars, garbage that they were, were fixable by the average shade tree. Not any more.

AS someone who has traded every couple of years (until recently) I take exception to many things in your posts. Some of them bordering on the non sensical.
I am not wasting my time to respond to every non sensical point.
The average price of a new vehicle is now $48,000.00. Can you afford one?

Kumbaya the "beater club".

Lolol cars did peak during those years though, “der u can’t afford to make 400 dollar payments a month like every person in the hood does their whole life” ok good argument bud

Cars today are much safer than cars from 2007.

That’s literally the only benefit. So sure u can use that copout argument, still doesn’t change the fact that pre 07 vehicles specifically Toyota Lexus Honda, and some Chevys, are more reliable, and have a much superior road feel. As a single young man, my 94 ls400, 03 grand marquis, 01 tundra are safe enough for me. All I want is durability and or reliability… if I have a baby in the backseat I’ll get a safe new car
