Road trip with 4k miles on oil already

Hey guys I’m looking for someone to either calm my nerves or recommend some advice. Going on a roadtrip tomorrrow around 800 miles one way, I have 4k miles on my oil. It’s a 1994 Lexus ls400 v8, running Quaker state euro 5w40, with a fram enduro synthetic filter rated for I think 20k miles. I’m 4k mile oci guy, but the reason I switched to a euro 5w40 and fram enduro filter is to be able to run longer oil changes. What would you guys do? The majority of the 4k miles is from my road trip to Colorado from Illinois and some city miles. My trip is going to be high speed 85mph the whole way. Would it be fine if I just changed the oil but not the filter?? Thanks.

Personally, I’d just take the trip and change both when you get back.

That car is easy on oil if I remember correctly. 5600 miles with a large chunk of highway miles should be no problem at all. Euro 5W40 oils are generally good for at least 10k miles.

That is very true. It’s not like I plan on keeping this car forever, and even if I was objectively running the oil for too long, I wouldn’t see the ill effects of it in my ownership. Thanks will do

Hwy miles are easy on oil. I'd run it!

Go on the trip and worry about it afterwards. Just check to make sure the oil level is good before taking the trip.

As others have said, that engine is easy on oil, and oyu have a stout oil in it.
If it makes you feel better, perhaps MityVac out the oil and refill; leave the filter.

But the BITOG census is run with it.

I would double check all safety items, tire depth, pressure, coolant, etc, then enjoy the drive, at a safe legal posted speed of course.

Zero issues keeping that lightly used oil in there. In reality if it had double it'd be fine. Someone on here posted a uoa after 6500 miles in an NA v6 Mercedes using QS euro and the tbn was over 6. But other a3/b4 ll-01 229.5 uoa's have looked similar when used in similar engines. Heck some guy used delo xsp 15w-40 in an NA scion for 20k and the tbn was almost 3 and had low wear averges. 4k on an oil like that is no concern.

Several years ago I made a trip to Florida (2300 miles) with my 96 Merc GM with 8500 miles on the oil. However the oil was M1. No problem at all.

Make sure the level is good and run it. Sounds like a fun car for a high-speed trip too!

My Euro formula oils are formulated so they can easily make 10k miles no problem.

It's a toss up. I would either change it now or when your 800 mile trip is completed. Nothing wrong either way.
