1994 ls400. I usually do 4k oil changes with Quaker state and a Toyota oil filter yzzd3. Please help me decide which oil would be best for 10k oci of 40 percent highway 60 city. First choice is Quaker state euro 5w40 a3/b4 rated. Second choice is castrol euro 5w40 a3/b4 rated. And third choice and least likely choice is mobile esp 5w30 or delvac 5w40. These oils will be running through the fram enduro filters, I can’t find a bette filter at Walmart for extended oci besides possibly mobile 1.

From my research it appears EURO a3/b4 oils in 40wt suit my needs in my climate and spirited high rpm driving styles. It appears euro oil is inherently better than extended protection mobile 1 oils for the purpose of extended OCI (a3/b4 euros). Starting TBN of 10 or more, a light 40 weight so if it shears it’ll shear down to 30wt as its first step instead of from 30wt to 20wt. Can someone help me choose? Or if I’m wrong in my research please let me know! It seems like a3/b4 oil is extended OCI oil before oils like mobile 1 ESP ever came on the shelves! Price doesn’t matter to me, but Quaker state euro 5w40 is 21 bucks at my Walmart which is nice! My engine needs API SJ oil as the minimum, it’s ancient. It’s also notoriously easy on oil, it’s a 1uzfe v8, the 2uzfe older brother. THANKS! I appreciate all members here

Delvac esp 5w-40 would do a bit better but they're all good. I think delvac esp has a tbn of 12 and an hths of 3.8. Here's a uoa of qs 5w-40 to get an idea.

Wow! Delvac sounds amazing. I think it’s low saas vs full saaps which Quaker state euro is full saaps

Ever do an oil test?
If you're going to exceed manufacturer oci you should probably do a change at or slightly past OEM oci and test at say recommend oci plus a thousand miles.

Any of those will be fine, so just get the one that is the best price.

M1 0w40 is a very popular A3/B4 and also worth considering. Since one of the oils you mentioned is HDEO, they should have Rotella T6.

Your 1994 LS400 1UZ seems to take 6 quarts of oil, so consider one of those eco boxes if your local Walmart carries them. Or you could buy a case of 6 quarts, if that ends up being cheaper than a 5qt jug and an additional quart

Remember that ANY oil, even the cheapest SP "dino" is better than ANY motor oil available 30 years ago when your car was new :D

Perhaps this Havoline 5w30 Synthetic 6qt eco box would suit your needs. It's only $25 for 6 quarts, and if your local Walmart doesn't carry it, order it online along with the Fram Endurance filter, and you will get free shipping :)

Even basic SP is MUCH better than the SH that existed back then.

Personally, that engine was never designed for 10k OCI.
4k OCI with any oil should be healthy for that engine. Why change to a longer OCI. What is the benefit?

Any oil will go 10K miles in a mechanically sound engine. There is the rub. You need to to a UOA at say 8K miles before going higher IMHO

if you really want 10k oci Amsoil ss a good choice in the 5w-30 and excellent performing oil,,tbn of 12.5 ,providing it's not a excessive oil burner. monitor with a uoa around the 10k mark. also check out amsoils prefered customer pricing

Going from 4K to 10K miles OCIs. That's a big jump!

Curious what made you make that decision?

Bigger question is if you can sleep well after this move? 🤣

It appears to still use the ester formula as of voa’s in early 2024. Just put it in my daughter’s 2016 Acura RDX.
Yeah, I think you posted something similar in another thread. I can’t seem to find a 2024 VOA on it. I’m interested in trying this oil…honestly I almost tried it 3 months ago but instead went with Pennzoil Ultra 5W30.

I’d like to find one reasonably priced high quality oil that I can stick with and run for 10,000 mile intervals…without worrying that the formula will change. That’s my latest oil passion/trend - I do change my mind frequently - but I’d like to stick with one oil that has some PAO/Esters and stay with it.

I saw the voa around here somewhere, it may even be in a posted video . It’s good stuff! Can’t promise the formula won’t change.

Thanks for your input, but my question is, how in the world are modern ford direct injected twin turbo 4 and 6 cylinders “designed” or rated for 10k OCI, but my port injected naturally aspirated Toyota v8 with no oil burning or fuel dilution issues isn’t meant for 10k? Logically mine should be able to run longer OCI than 85 percent of new cars made today
