Hi

Just read Mixing Group 3 & Group 4 based oils have competing chemsitries and it is not advisable even if they are by the same manufacturer.

I intended to mix Mobil 3000 5w40 to Mobil 1 5w50, to me the add packs look very similiar. I know that it may matter little and don't want the politics of doing it.

I would like input into competing chemistries theory of the same brand different grades and base oils being mixed.

This maybe an example to start with below.

Mobil 5w40 Group 3
API SM/SL/SJ/CF and ACEA A3/B3 & A3/B4
BMW Longlife Oil 98
VW 502.00/505.00
MB-Approval 229.3
Porsche Special Oil List
GM GM-LL-B025

Mobil 1 5w50 Full Group IV
API SM/SL/SJ/CF and ACEA A3/B3 & A3/B4
VW 505 00
PORSCHE Special Oil List
MB-Approval 229.3
MB-Approval 229.1

Shouldn't matter really as most PAO based oils need mineral as a carrier for the additives. Some use ester. Gulf western Protecta Ultra is Group 1 blended with 30% PAO. Works fine. I cant see how GRoup 3 would be different. I always though ESter (one Redline use) was the one that didnt like mixing.

P.S DO i know you from somewhere hehe

Mobil 3000x3 5W40 looks the goods and i may try it, especially while the Mobil 1 base oils war is raging on the other threads hehe...

Where did you read this disinformation? It would be good if you referenced the book, article, or internet blog where this statement came from.

All PCMO oils have to be miscible (mixable) with all other PCMO's, regardless of base oil type.

It was from a motoring site on the internet where members were discussing various oils and opinions.

I didn'i think to copy the link. I went through quite a few sites that day. I will try to find it and post it.

Yes....definitely BITOG. The rest of the interenet, ESPECIALLY OIL MANUFACTURERS WEB SITES....well I would be very cautious.

In defense of Virgin Oil i have read it before as well, i have read many times how Ester that Redline uses does not like mixing.....i have come across it a few times, i didnt think back then to make note of it just incase i need to post it on BITOG. The question was asked on here by Virgin to clarify it for him and those who are interested.
