If fuel keeps going down in price, we may all end up driving these:

I used to brake check when I was 18. Now that I'm 47 I don't get as mad. Never had any troubles with tailgators when I had a FS pickup with a frame hitch. Now that I have a Mustang and a Saturn Astra I notice it more. Usually some bimbo in an SUV with under inflated tires, yacking on a cell phone. I normally run the speed limit or speed limit +5 at the most, and I stay out of the left lane unless I'm actually passing. I use these idiots as screens for cops down the road, the faster they go, the better test they are.

+1 , a big share of tailgaters are just brain dead, not malicious.

I get a kick out of the ones that will come roaring up behind you, sit on your bumper a few seconds, the jump over to another lane and sit on someone else's bumper because he is 50 feet further down the road only to find out that the person they switched to is actually going slower.

A lot of drivers are totally unaware of what is happening any further down the road than the bumper in front of them.

So very true.

I have a 45 min drive twice a week and there's heavy oil field truck traffic. I get tailgated in the TL terribly, to the point if I let off the gas and barely hit the brakes there's nothing the person tailgating could do to avoid hitting me.

Then there are the people that pass on the two lane highway even though there is a line of 30 cars up ahead. By the time we hit the first redlight, I'm usually right next to the guy that was doing all the passing.

Then there's fog driving. I'm already driving too fast at 50mph and people tailgate me and pass me with 100' of visibility. It blows my mind.

I truly think it comes down to a lack of intelligence most of the time, not being malicious.

I now have a handful of rocks to throw through the sunroof when people won't back off.
