road rage, tailgating, and Big Vehicles

My wife and I were discussing this and the other thread on the way to my daughters place. Sure enough, a cellphone bimbo in an SUV was high anxiety bumper riding on a 2 lane road ..with traffic lights. The car in front of her was "invisible" in the sense that it was just a static inhibitor to her forward motion. Her mind was on her phone and what she was going to do when she got where she was going.

As I've said, it's neurotic behavior ...or rather the symptoms of "functional dysfunction". My wife is one such type, just not "all in" when it comes to driving. She still hasn't figured out to coast when she knows she's coming to a stop ..but she's not riding anyone's behind. She evidences it other ways. Laundry..trash ..dishes...all those little tasks that can soak up all that anxiety.

neurotic behavior...I like that diagnosis. I'd like to know if it gets worse with starbucks coffee in hand? LoL

Oh man!

Last year, I'm cruising along at about 90 in an 80-zone after picking up my buddy Travis from work.

So, we approach this side-road that comes out onto the road we are travelling on; it's an exit from a gas station and a grocery store.

Sitting there, at the intersection is a woman in a beige Buick. I see her creeping a bit at the intersection, so I instinctively cover the brake pedal.

AND HOW.

She looks both ways, then looks back, LOOKS RIGHT AT ME, as I'm obviously bearing down on her location at a recently quick rate of speed, and WHILE LOOKING AT ME, PULLS OUT!!!!!!

I HAMMER THE BRAKES, get within MAYBE a foot of her car as she careens her boat into the intersection, as I'm screaming YOU [censored] [censored]!!!!!!! and she's glaring at me like I'm the one in the wrong!!!!!

It took GREAT restraint not to wheel the Townie around and follow her down and ask her what in the [censored] she was thinking and what magazine she bought her drivers license from!

Yes, similar twas the end of my precious 1985 Golf Diesel.

Driving home from work, on a day like any other day.

A shabby older lady in a shabby older car, looking determinedly ahead, pulls out from a stop sign directly into my path.

What a shock. Tires squeal, metal smashes.

Maybe she thought I had some kind of invisible stop sign.

Hehe, I just realized when you quote somebody, you can see what they really typed prior to the filter's work!

Yeah I actually use that "feature" a lot. When I see the filter's censorship my mind automatically inserts the filthiest word I can think of that makes sense in context. The quoting loophole is a good way to see what they really wrote when all the nasty words my mind tries to insert don't make sense :)

That is very funny! They say humor comes from truth.....could not be more true than that.

Not too many Buicks in the DC area, the ones to watch out for here are Toyota drivers (which mainly seem to be the same kind of old ladies that drive Buicks elsewhere).

+1
The Avalon has honorary status as a Buick.

Me too. This is something NHTSA has failed at miserably! I would also like to see a tighter tolerance on headlamp height, and a reduction in headlamp glare. Kudos to Ford for lowering the headlamp height on their Super Duty pickups.

I think it is inexcusable for it to be legal to have headlight 6' off the road. And more so to drive within 10' of a car totally blinding the driver. Those that do so are brain dead or very low forms of life.

I don't like driving trucks because they're a pain to drive in a crowded urban environment. Parallel parking, alleyways, etc. I also don't like having a 25 foot blind spot directly behind me. Backing up becomes a pain when you can't see anything behind you.

As for the bumper riders, [censored] em'. I just roll the speed limit in the right lane. If they don't like it, go around. I hate the fact that 90% of drivers on the road become "tough guys" behind the wheel of a car, and drive like ***holes. If everyone was a bit more patient and relaxed, navigating the highways would be a lot easier.

I won't brake-check, it's a personal policy. I certianly don't like it when it's done to me. I do use the horn liberally though.

I like that. Reminds me of the bumper sticker I saw the other day at Pep Boys.
It said: "Horn broke. Watch for finger!"

Almost developed a case of road rage today myself.

Some inbred [censored] in a jacked up GMC Jimmy rode my [censored] for about eight miles tonight. That's not surprising, but the fact that his bright lights were on and directly in my line of vision is what irked me. Total blindness, complete brightness reflecting back off of me from the side mirrors and rearview. I mean, it was midnight and the interior of my car looked like a bright sunny day. We were on a four lane (two lane each direction) and traffic was so thick I couldn't go anywhere except directly in front of him. I finally pulled off the side of the road to let him pass and he pulled up onto someone else's bumper. Same thing happened, you see a quarter of a mile ahead some Civic pulling off the side of the road.

I pulled up alongside him and blasted my horn. He finally rolled down the window and I pointed out the fact that his brights were on and he was blinding everyone. He just looked at me and said "[censored] off" and floored it. It took every ounce of strength I had to not pull a Chuck Norris and jump out of my moving car onto his running board and pull him out of his "truck" and sandpaper the asphalt with his face.

On top of that we get to the theater to see the new Bond flick and the guy next to me has a Bluetooth in his ear set to bright. So every five seconds I get this piercing blue strobe in my eye in a darkened theater. I reminded him he still had his Bluetooth in, and he looks at me like I'm stupid. I explain that it's still on so the bright blue light is directly in my eye. He goes "You serious? That light is actually bothering you?"

I offered to put in my left ear and demonstrate how annoying it is to be on the broadcasting end of it, but he just mumbled and put it in his pocket.

I'm thinking of moving to a third world nation were people are too poor to afford cars, cellphones, bluetooths, and stereos. Americans have proven that while they can afford such things, they are too stupid to operate them.

Huh? Hadn't noticed anything exclusive to GM in this thread.

Around here, the maniac, tailgating, cell-phone, leadfoot SUV drivers all drive Lincoln Navigators.

The overuse of blue LEDs is a big problem. They do come in other colors that aren't as bright, but I guess blue LEDs look cooler.

It's been a good 10 years at least since blue LEDs got cheap enough to stick in every product out there, you'd think the fad would have worn off by now.

Here's a solution from England:

Inventor arrested over anti tailgating device

Inventor Anthony Henderson (45) was caught on motorway CCTV cameras demonstrating his anti tailgating system to a prospective investor......................

"It works by installing a small inflatable device in the boot of your car, then, when your rear view mirror is filled with transit van or those funny headlights that are permanently set to blind, you press button A. This then sets the small boot mounted device off and opens the boot simulaneously. The device inflates to form a life sized figure of a fundemental terrorist holding and pointing an AK47 towards the following vehicle."........................

Link?

That's effen' hilarious!

Although I hold back from tailgating, I liberally use the high beams for idiots riding the far-left lane at the speed limit, or mayyyybe 5mph over if they're side-by-side to another vehicle not allowing to pass.

Buses nowadays are governed very low, so if I see I'm side-by-side to someone else, I'll scoot over behind them. I should never need to utilize the left lane, but there's too many retard drivers doing less than the speed limit in the center lane, or lazy big trucks riding the center like they own it. Trucks governed at 65mph (or less) - stay the [censored] to the far right please!
