Rant - Please do not hoard motor oil.

I have 20qts G-oil 5w30--38c/qt after rebate.
that took 9 walmarts to get.. f-in hoarders ;P

usually I keep about 3-4 oil changes on hand for my car

and a couple for the gf's ride.

right now i'm at about 40qts

most I ever had was 170qts.. cleaned out 3 advanced autos when they had the castrol startup clearance for 1$/qt

It was funny the first 2.. were easy then the 3rd on was like "no way they marked it down to a dollar"

I went out and got the recept.. and the counter guy got the manager and I cleared out all of theirs too..

I think i got about 45qts of valvoline durablend too.

both were more than good enough for the beater car.. and random other things like tractors.

Man...Ive got 70+ cases, yes cases of various Amsoil. Ive got maby close to 100 quarts of Mobil 1(yes of course I do, with at least 10 of those 5 quart jugs from Walmart)around 50 quarts Castrol Syntec, Old SH Castrol GTX(couple cases 10w-40, 20w-50)Lucas, Quaker State,...You wouldnt believe unless you saw it.

This is funny! I have a quart in each car for just in case. A quart of syn at a gas station costs enough to leave you [censored] off if you need a quick top off away from home. Closest thing to hoarding for me happened about a month or so ago for me and my friend. We were buying some oil for his e320 wagon when we stumbled across gallon jugs of syn Delo 400LE 5w40 marked at 13.99 a gallon. Sure enough we grabbed all but 1 off the shelf (10 gallons). The price at the register rang up 22 or 24 bucks each. We kindly alerted the cashier the posted price, and he walked over and said I need to tell my manager. The manager took over and honored the price screw up and we were on our way. It felt good haha

Your in Atlanta. Most likely the small specialty shops are buying it up. Its likely cheaper than thay can get it from the wholesaler.

When I find a deal....I buy as much as I can. Recently, Amazon had a special on Gallons of Valvoline conventional 5w-20 for $21 on a case of 4 Gallons. I bought 2 cases and they arrived safe and sound.

While in Orlando, FL, I visited the local Walmart and they had Castrol Edge, Gold Jug, SM without Titanium for $21 a jug. I bought 4 of the 5w30. While in Orlando, I found an O'Reilly Auto Parts Store, which we don't have in NYC, with Mobil Super Synthetic on sale and picked up 3 cases of 0w-20 for mixing with Mobil Delvac 15w40 conventional diesel oil.

On my trip back to NYC, I stopped at a Flying J truck stop and found Kendall Diesel, Synthetic Blend with Titanium in 15w40 for $12 a gallon. I bought 2 gallons, would have bought more but could not, since I was limited with space available for storing the oil.

When you see a deal....take the opportunity to load up. You never know when the price will be jacked up....it could happen tomorrow.

I don't understand the mentality of those that hoard oil. I like oil as much as the next guy, but I keep no more than one oil change per vehicle on hand and even then that's on a good day. lol

These oil pack rats are no different than folks that hoard any other item to excess.

I agree maybe a couple of extra if the deal is phenominal but the extreme coveting is really annoying .

Stores NEED to reduce the number of deals these obsessive people can have so the rest of society (normal) can benefit from them occasionally.

There is the key point: "to excess"...what's a resonable amount of consumables to keep around the house? My comfort level for having critical consumables, e.g. Scotch, cigars, beer, or even Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck, might be different than yours....

Oh, and "coveting" means "desiring that of another"...but we're talking about "hoarding" which means "storing a supply that is often hidden"...you wouldn't be coveting those hoards...would you?

I found Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck on sale for $0.98/QT - bought every quart, even though I won't need them for several months...I don't see that as hoarding, just being prepared by buying on sale...
