Once in Florida, the fever disappears the first day. I pretty much spend the whole vacation in Florida warming my body. My neighbors in Florida can't understand why I don't use air conditioning when I'm down there.

Do you have rheumatism or arthritis? Both can cause a fever and you may be suffering a flare-up when your immune system has been weakened by the long cold season. Do you already have a fever this year?

Don't have either of those afflictions. Curiously, this year I don't have the low level fever. I'm still looking forward to warming my body in Florida later this month.

Dunno about others, but I am no fan of heat and bugs. West coast may be interesting, but way too far from here, away from family.

There is little inducement to move. I'm used to my climate and it s extremes. But not cold snow and wind for such a duration. My foot gear is a 20 yr old pair of LL Bean Deer hunting shoes and a pair of heavy wool blend socks. So far, they have kept my feet dry and sorta warm. I have a bedraggled leather palm work gloves. I keep them in my van and I use them around the yard when I blow snow. or other heavy work. They keep my hands warm even when wet. Since career numero 4 is easy on my hands, my callouses wore off and my hands are soft. And dry, I bought a tube of hand cream and use it on my hands before gloving up. The house and outbuildings are holding up OK. Life is good and I'm having a blast. Even in snow, I see some very pretty out door scenery. Vistas that change by the hour and by the light. History, I live 2 miles from where a direct ancestor settled in the 1620s. Relatives and friends of over 50 yrs surround me.

You have explained your reasons for staying put very well.

I don't blame you one bit. It's those that can move and have no ties to the area that confuse me.

But....most people think the rain and clouds make it miserable out here (not really true...and always exaggerated).

I understand.

Yes...the west coast (most areas excluding parts of Southern California maybe) is pretty much ideal in terms of climate.

But...you can go inland just a bit, over a mountain range, and be in a desert within one hour from leaving a green, lush environment.

No place is perfect...but some places in this country that folks live is odd to me.

I'm really starting to get irritated with climate snobs. My relatives do the same thing. They live in warm spots. Warm and very boring. But I have to justify why I live where I do.

I have to give a nod to Seattle though. Been there many times. I really like it.

Contrary to most folks I love the rain and moderate temps (50s-60s)F
I always love to see lots of greenery, and hate to see the
brown, dry and dusty conditions that we can often see in the
interior South East where I live now. I like the seasons too and don't mind some snow, but I have NO interest in experiencing
winters with temps that almost never rise above freezing even during the day for months on end! Suburban Philly was a good compromise on the east coast. You see a bit of everything except severe drought, which I was always glad about.

Mark me as someone who loves winter. This winter is working to change that!

It's the first winter since I was a kid that I remember having to shovel off my parents' garage ... well, I never did it when I was younger, but this is the first time of it having to be shoveled in 20 years.

I have owned the Focus for 4 years (to the date, too!). Never had a tank of gas average below 30MPG. These last few weeks, I have been lucky to get 26. This extreme cold is just killing gas mileage.

Have a lot of things on deck for the Jeep ... can't do it because there is too much snow and I can't work on it anywhere.

The time Change is nice, though! I like getting out of work and going to the gym and still have it be sunny out when I get done. I am an up-with-the-sun type of person. It's nice to be able to sleep until 7 - even if it is just for a few weeks.
