End of rant.
Sounds like someone is mad they didn't get to hoard first.:)

Sounds about right.
It isn't hoarding until you wind up on a "Hoarders, Buried Alive" show. Sounds like it's about time for a Bandit and Snowman type run to the east coast for a little Mobil 1 ESP action.

Hey if I send you my wife's e-mail address can you tell her I'm responsible?

Here's an idea, leave your contact information(the basics of course) at the Pep Boys store in question, and have them tell this individual to give you a call, then see if you can straight up ask him to leave you a case? Can't hurt.

I have the same squirrel to deal with in NW NJ-everytime a sale or closeout is mentioned here, the son of a, beats me to it-Wallys, Strauss, AZ AAP, you name it, he's probably retired and has nothing better to do

my wife thought I was crazy when I bought 70+ quarts about 3 years ago...and then I ran out and now I get giddy when I can find something under $2/qt. She even checks out the oil aisle and calls me from the store sometimes! Of course i have never given her the green light because I would probably end up with Mobil Super for $4/qt when she specifically told me it was Mobil 1 ....

I'd bet almost anything the hoarder in question is a fellow member here. They're probably reading this thread in delight as they wax their newly purchased bottles of synthetic oil.

Well, when you see a deal....you better go for it.... since it won't be around long. Case in Point.....I saw a nice large display of Castrol Edge, Gold Bottle, SM GF-4, 5+ Jugs at Walmart last Friday in 5w30 and 10w30. I picked up 3 jugs for $21 each, since the 5w30 was made in January, 2011 and it exceeded the requirements of GF-5! The Castrol Edge with Titanium, Gold Jug, right next to it in SN, GF-5 was $28.50.

When I returned last night.....ALL of the Castrol Edge, Gold Jug, SM, GF-4 in 5w30 and 10w30 was sold out! There had to be 40 Jugs on the display on Friday!

Some stores still have this Castrol Edge, SM GF-4, in stock but for over $8.50 a quart.

Like in the Clint Eastwood movie….”The Good, the bad and the ugly”…..When Tiko is taking a bath in the bombed out, abandoned Hotel….he gains the upper hand and shoots his enemy who sneaks up on him…..then says….”If you’re going to shoot….then shoot….don’t just talk about it”….the same with the oil deals….get them while you can!

So if you see a deal...don't snooze....or else you'll loose!

Can't you just ask PB to order it for you and then hold it in your name? That's standard practice if something isn't in stock on the shelf.

Lube oil hoarding.

I had no idea this kind of thing was going on.

I wonder if these people fantasize over the centerfold picture of German Castrol in Lubes 'n Greases magazine.

Or get a hard on when passing by an Edge poster board at AutoZone. I think I've also seen some guys fondling PP jugs at WalMart when their wives weren't looking...

I had to order Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5w30 online, a VW 507/MB 229.51 which is what the OP is trying to grab on-sale .... I did this many months ago ....
I only ordered only two cases (6x2=12) ... 34 bucks a case plus shipping ... by ordering two cases, I saved on shipping and my total came out to $ 78 or $ 6.5 per QT.

Last week, I poured in the last of that oil .... today that same oil is $ 47 per case and shipping is NOT ten bucks but $ 13.

Moral: HOARD! ( especailly at good prices )

p.s. I'm on the way to PB and if they have that ESP and let me have it for the price, I will buy ALL THEY HAVE.

I tend to stock up when a good sale comes along...and out of curiosity, I just counted what's in the garage:

Castrol Edge 5W30 - 24 Q
Castrol Syntec 5W40 - 18 Q
Mobil 1 5W30 - 3Q
Mobil 1 0W40 - 13 Q
Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W40 - 27 Q
Pennzoil HD 40 - 24 Q
Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 - 4 Q
Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5W40 - 18 Q
Shell Rotella 15W40 - 8 Q
Shell Rotella T-6 5W40 - 8 Q
Valvoline Syn 5W30 - 4 Q
Total: 150 Qts...give or take...

Now...I didn't count trans fluid, PS fluid, gear oil or brake fluid, but I am glad to know that I am not a hoarder!

I guess, if money is needed badly by the US Government, taxing motor oil with a luxury tax could be an option on the table.

Then the people with stashes of motor oil would be ahead of the game. Anything is a possibility....I remember in the 1960's a pack of cigarettes cost only $.25....today they are well over $10 a pack in some cities.

I would hate to see a quart of Conventional oil going for over $10. But you can never say.....never!

When I see a good deal - I tend to buy it even if I have plenty on the shelf...latest deal was the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W40 for $1.98 on clearance at the Navy Exchange...I bought 12 QTS a few months ago.

It was still on sale a month later (after I had told my fellow BITOGers...)...I bought 15 QTS (their whole stock). Just couldn't pass up the deal!
