2008 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3L V-6 with 18,500 miles.

My first oil change on this vehicle (previous 4 were done by dealer with Quaker State 5w-20 bulk oil). This is probably one of the easier vehicles I've ever changed oil on -- everything was within easy reach, and I like that the filter cartridge is on top of the engine.

I went with the QSUD in part because it seems to be priced right for the quality you get (I checked VOAs, UOAs), and there seems to be a small, but loyal group of QS devotees here. I went with a Purolator Classic L35610 filter.

The oil that came out was BLACK (had 3998 miles on it with 60/40 city/highway)--it must have been doing it's job. The oil system has a 6.3 quart total capacity with 5.49 quarts changed with the filter.

The Santa Fe has been a great vehicle (my wife's) and we've had zero issues with it. The 3.3 V-6 is powerful, smooth and quiet, but I recently noticed that at start up, the engine was noisy for a few seconds. This engine has variable valve timing and I chalk it up to the VVT changing for conditions at startup. I was curious to see if the new QSUD would change that noise, and initially it seems to have cured it, but the engine was still hot--tomorrow morning will tell the real story I think.

The Purolator filter seemed substandard compared to other Purolators I've used. I looked at a Fram CH9999 at Walmart and it appeared identical to the Hyundai OEM filter that came out during the change--it was even made in Korea; it seemed "beefier" than the Purolator. I didn't go with the Fram this time because, well, it's a FRAM. . .I'll probably go with the Fram next time after giving it some thought.

QSUD is still on sale at Walmart for $18.00 / 5 qts.--a good deal for a premium syn oil I think.

I used this oil in my 2007 Santa Fe 3.3 Liter and just bought a new 2010 Santa Fe with the 3.5 liter engine.

I bought enough Quaker State Ultimate 5W20 on sale at the local Wal-Mart to last us in both our Santa Fe and 2010 Tucson for a few years.

I don't know if our local Wal-Mart has it anymore.

QSUD went back up to $20 for the 5 qt. jug at WMs near me. I think it's a very good oil and wouldn't hesitate to use it BUT if I were doing 5K OCI's I'd go with PYB and save $7.50 a jug. The new PYB formula that claims to remove 40% of deposits seems to be a VG product.
PS: Hyundai is making some nice vehicles....good luck with yours.

Yeah. . forgot to mention that I'm doing 5000 mile OCIs from now on. This one will be 6500 miles to get me on the 5/10 routine on my odometer, but I expect it will go that distance without any problems. I might post a UOA of this run to see how the Hyundai is doing with it.

PBM. . .I agree, the new PYB is tempting--I might try that at some point, but if the QSUD works well and I can keep getting it cheaply, then I'll probably just stick with it.

The factory oil filter on my Camry is identical to the Fram 9972.

The Purolator for that applicaion looks puny in comparison to the Fram too.

I'd use the Fram on your Santa Fe.

Forget the orange can of death brainwashing.

Yeah. . .at least with the cartridge type filters you can see the filter media and construction without cutting a can apart--I KNOW that the FRAM for this application is superior to the Purolator in construction, because I can see it. In the end, they probably perform the same. I don't think I'd trust a FRAM that I couldn't see the inside of though.
