I am not saying it is the greatest full synthetic there is out there, as a matter of fact it is the bottom of the barrel of the Castrol full synthetic oils they sell here in the US. All I am saying is, for a 0w-20, not 0w-30, but 0w-20, it has a decent vis at 100c of 9.0. For a cheap full synthetic 0w-20, that is thicker than many other 0w-20 oils out there. I didn't say it would flow, I said it was a little thicker than some of the other full synthetics. I hope we have this figured out. Believe me, I know it is not an Amsoil, Redline, Castrol Extended Performance or a Mobil 1 EP. For a 10,000-mile rated cheaper synthetic oil, it is a pretty thick 0w-20, if that is what you are looking for.
I see what you're saying. You're correct that GTX has good/high cSt @ op temp and that was the only thing I'd mentioned looking for in regard to cSt. However, I also look at cSt at cold start and how well it pours cold. I didn't get that indepth earlier because I didn't know we'd discuss cSt this much. I'll be more indepth this time.

I look for a high cSt @ KV100 while also having a low cSt @ KV40.

i.e. - I look for oils with low viscosity (good flow) at startup and high viscosity (less leaks & higher oil pressure) at op temp. Edge & Edge HM have both qualities, as do the other oils I like.

From what I know of GTX, it has a nice high cSt at Op Temp, but doesn't have good flow or low cSt at cold start. At least not in cold pour independent tests I've seen.

I think you're correct in the things you said. So am I. We're not in disagreement, IMO. It's just that I also care about KV40 cSt and pour point (in data sheets, and more importantly in independent tests).

Plus the never ending endeavor of noting that in reality, flow is mostly irrelevant. All those flow tests and fine tuning of supposed viscosity from PDS don't really mean a thing. If the oil flows to the pump pickup then it will flow in the engine. Pick an appropriate winter rating for your starting temperature and flow is no longer a concern.

But people like these county fair demonstrations and freezer tests, so the misplaced worry over flow will continue.
