M1 FS vs. M1 ESP

It seems as though ESP is the new darling, is FS Euro not the Top Tier of M1 any longer?

I've been running FS 0/5W-40 in my Pentastar 3.6 and wife's Toyota 2.7 1AR

Neither engine consumes any appreciable oil, and I run 5k OCI on the Pentastar and 6.5k in the Toyota changing filters every other OCI (uses to be Fram Ultra). Almost 100k on tue clock with both.

ACEA A3/B4 oils like M1 FS are still great products. It's just that European automakers are selling cars equipped with an OPF so oil blenders are focused on ACEA Cx oils like ESP.
 
I guess I'm trying to understand the full SAPS oil vs the less additives ESP. Too many rabbit holes to go down here at BITOG!

Ultra low sulphur fuels has allowed for a modest reduction in some common additives which show up in a UOA. However, there are other additives which do not appear in a UOA. Also with regards to the euro certs the performance requirements or the same regardless of SAPS.

Two different applications.
ESP is LOw-SAPS oil, made to protect emission systems.
FS is high-SAPS oil, albeit with reduced SAPS compared to the previous version. It is entry track/racing oil in the Mobil 1 lineup.
 
Why do you think it has less additives?
Plus the fact that a spectrographic analysis doesn't look at "additives". It displays a concentration of mostly metallic atoms in decomposed compounds. Additives are compounds, not bare elements. And some additives don't contain elements that are tested in emission spectrography.

That is why approvals, specifications and licenses are important. Not $35 UOA.

Then you have the testing the Lake Speed Jr has done where ESP had significantly better shear stability. That was ESP x3 0w-40 vs FS 0w-40, so who knows if that holds true for the other ESP oils or the current x4 version of 0w-40 but when it comes to track use that kinda result makes ESP attractive.

Shear stability is just one of many variables.

True but for track use that’s high on the list, FS seems to consistently shear down from a thin 40/50 to a thick 30/40

It is believed by some that M1 Supercar is ESP with a different label.
ESP x3 looks a lot closer to C40 GT than Supercar. I’d love to see the newer x4 put through the same tests

Idk. I ran FS to 300f on track and still did 5k OCI.
Don’t think that X4 won’t shear down over 5k OCI.
Also, shearing down and stabilizing is not bad thing.
 
That gets into the question of how much real world track or daily driving use the KRL test equals. Something I’ve been curious about and it’s probably going to be very engine dependent but it would be neat to see someone try and make that comparison.
 
ith my vehicle I have no problems with shear stability and that at oil intervals of 20k km and a mileage of 475000. The fullsaps oils are in my opinion the best choice if it allows the exhaust gas aftertreatment.
