2008 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3L V-6 with 18,500 miles.
My first oil change on this vehicle (previous 4 were done by dealer with Quaker State 5w-20 bulk oil). This is probably one of the easier vehicles I've ever changed oil on -- everything was within easy reach, and I like that the filter cartridge is on top of the engine.
I went with the Quaker State Ultimate Durability in part because it seems to be priced right for the quality you get (I checked VOAs, used oil analysis), and there seems to be a small, but loyal group of QS devotees here. I went with a Purolator Classic L35610 filter.
The oil that came out was BLACK (had 3998 miles on it with 60/40 city/highway)--it must have been doing it's job. The oil system has a 6.3 quart total capacity with 5.49 quarts changed with the filter.
The Santa Fe has been a great vehicle (my wife's) and we've had zero issues with it. The 3.3 V-6 is powerful, smooth and quiet, but I recently noticed that at start up, the engine was noisy for a few seconds. This engine has variable valve timing and I chalk it up to the VVT changing for conditions at startup. I was curious to see if the new Quaker State Ultimate Durability would change that noise, and initially it seems to have cured it, but the engine was still hot--tomorrow morning will tell the real story I think.
The Purolator filter seemed substandard compared to other Purolators I've used. I looked at a Fram CH9999 at Walmart and it appeared identical to the Hyundai OEM filter that came out during the change--it was even made in Korea; it seemed "beefier" than the Purolator. I didn't go with the Fram this time because, well, it's a FRAM. . .I'll probably go with the Fram next time after giving it some thought.
Quaker State Ultimate Durability is still on sale at Walmart for $18.00 / 5 qts.--a good deal for a premium syn oil I think.
