Post your latest oil purchase or even filter.

MicroGard MGL57099 for the truck. Unfortunately the silicone ADBV has been replaced with nitrile. I purchased the exact same filter March 25th, 2022 and it had silicone ADBV. But I cannot find the PL15313 or PH8873 locally at a decent price, and this one is made in the USA, which is a must for me, so I am going to run it and hope I can get my hands on one with a silicone ADBV for next time.

I am not quite sure @53' Stude , it's funny that you ask because: when I was at O'Reilly's there was nobody else there, so the young man behind the counter and I were chit-chatting because I was curious as to why this one had a nitrile ADBV and the previous ones that I have purchased have had silicone ADBV's. We went and grabbed a Wix 57099 and held them side by side and they looked identical besides the ADBV's (Wix was silicone), so I assumed that it was made by Wix, but I honestly do not know. The Wix was a hair more than double the price so I went with the MicroGard, since it is still made here in the USA. Perhaps this particular filter number is outsourced by Wix for both their own filter and for MicroGard??? I'm not too sure, but I'm curious 🙂

I believe that filter would fit a HEMI application or possibly the 4.7 V-8 Chrysler engine. Can anyone here confirm?

I am not too knowledgeable on Mopar, so perhaps they have changed over the years, but I jumped on Wix's site and put in a 2007 Dakota with the 4.7 and it looks like it has metric threads, M22x1.5. The 57099 has 13/16-16 threads, so looks like it doesn't fit that year of 4.7 at least, but as I said, I don't see much of Mopar 🙂
This is used on my 1996 Chevy K1500 with the 350, it is not the stock filter though, this filter is for the older SBC's, and the early 2000's Silverado with the 8.1 liter. In my year of Chevy truck they had an oil filter adapter that had cooling lines going to the radiator, but they leaked like crazy, and the only one who makes replacement cooler lines is Dorman, and they are not very well built, so I removed the whole goofy setup years ago and now just run a regular SBC oil filter, but it has to be a shorty because the front driveshaft is in the way. I run the size of:
AC Delco PF454
Baldwin 1438
Purolator PL15313
Wix 57099
Fram PH8873
I can't remember what the Hastings number was, but their site no longer exists, so I wonder if they got the ax and now everything is Baldwin???
I know, a long explanation of how I got to running a non-OEM sized filter for the 1996 K1500. 🙂

Very good sir. When you said truck I thought you had a Dodge or Ram. Sorry bout that
No worries at all 🙂 Nope, an old Chevy that I keep on life support because I don't want to spend the kind of money that trucks are going for right now. Although sometimes it tests my patience, but at 280,xxx miles I try to cut it some slack 😉

I apparently got an oil drinker

Don't worry.. @High Performance Lubricants
Knows all about it. Enter the EC to top off... if it's rings..... I gotta check some things .

In the meantime, NOT RUNNING LOW ON OIL had to add 1.5 quarts on maiden voyage so... okay. Whatever that ends up meaning. Let's go.

Is it burning oil thru rings? Or leaking. If it’s burning it via rings you can try multiple piston soaks and pray like I did. It didn’t help my Camry. Good luck 👍🍻🇺🇸

No oil on the ground which is a good sign. COULD be leaking, and just not hitting the ground, I don't know yet. I'll have to monitor the situation.

I've been advised to NOT use MMO.. That would be a departure for me, but. When you know better, you do better.

Engine doesn't rattle on startup anymore so things should be improving.

I’d be closely monitoring oil usage then as it’s going somewhere.

I'm up to the full max mark on the dipstick.

If it's rings, the HPL product will help it.

I don't know that it is rings at this time.

I'm actually wondering where it's going myself because it's running fairly well and I'm not noticing any signs like smoke or anything than oil burner would do so at this stage it's a mystery wrapped in an enigma.

^^^ Time for an Italian Tune Up ... 😄
Oh.......... the BITOGer that got more than 500 lb of product with my car doing the Carolina Squat combined with a Cannonball Run type of drive down the highways at some pretty high speeds.... that's been done.

Had to add 1.5 quarts of oil after that little stunt! And that's how I know it's burning oil. Talk about under load...

The first stage of seeing where it's going is to top up with 10w40 and somehow I don't think that's going to help. (going up a grade in oil)
Factory fill before the journey was Mobil 1 0w40 so there's a small chance it could just be change over however I don't think that that's it

UPDATE: Did a medium-thorough quick cleaning with a degreaser product. PCV showed signs of being black with carbon, may have been bad in parts I could not see. Sprayed in, engine off, warm/hot engine, let sit 20 minutes, read it advisable to not let degreaser product dry.. started engine let run 5 minutes, moved forward, moved backwards.... results seem promising. This now a factor in monitoring oil level and consumption. Genuinely curious if it will affect or possibly stop use. Feels peppier....

I’m gonna guess it possibly is rings. Have someone stand behind the van when you start it. Or possible valve stem seals. Either way, you are consuming oil someway, somehow. Have you checked the PCV valve?
