Canada Tire is clearing out a Motomaster (house brand) motor oil that is labelled as Premium Full Synthetic for "Imports". "Formulated for most Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Mazda, Nissan vehicles". The details on the back label says Meets or exceeds the latest requirements of Chrysler MS-6395, GM 6094M, Ford WSS-M2C946-B1. Exceeds the requirements of API SP and all previous categories ILSAC GF-6A. It doesn't list any specs for the above-mentioned asian car makers (maybe they don't have specs?). I don't know what about this oil makes it geared towards asian imports.

It has the API service SP seal. Resource conserving. It says you can go 2x longer oil change interval - up to 16k kms (10k miles).

This oil was on the shelf for $20 for a 5-liter jug. That's about $14 USD. There were a few different viscosities, there was no 10W30 so I bought a few of the next best thing (for me) - 5W30. It's full retail price was $52, at some point marked down to $24, and now $20 on clearance.

There is another version of this oil, practically identical labels, but for domestic vehicles, with a Dexos logo on it, price is $52.

I'm buying this for my Chrysler LH-era (2000 - 2004) cars with 3.5L V6.

I'm just curious why this oil is being cleared out. What's wrong with it?

Check back label closely, made by Shell? May as well be same as same grade Pennzoil. They clear some product time to time and good or great deals can still be had.

I am using this in the 5w30 variety. I like to think it is just rebottled PuP, but even if it isnt, it is still a very good oil for the price.

What city are you finding this deal? I think I got the last of this stuff in my city for $25/jug.

I also believe it is rebottled Shell Ultra. I got couple 5l jugs of 0w20 for $24. That was few months ago on clearance, it sold fast.

It is still kicking around in my neck of the woods but inventory is scant.

This is in London Ontario, Canada tire on Wonderland. I was there on 2 different days last week, they seemed to have a few dozen of them on the shelves, a few different viscosities, I was only interested in the 5W30 (my first choice would have been 10W30 but there was none). I've bought 5 jugs, probably enough for me for a while.

^ I'm in London, ON, too, lol. Sounds like a great deal for oil, the good thing is that it is made by a major manufacturer (CT doesn't make oil), it has all of specs on the label, so it looks good, should work well for your application. Enjoy the savings. They may release a new version of it later down the road, not that there is anything wrong with the cheap oil, perhaps just new packaging and marketing slogans, etc. They need to get rid of the old to get the new.

Retailers can't efficiently deal with product they can not re-order. It screws up their automated inventory management system. So its more efficient just to get rid of the old stuff quickly then convert the shelf space to the new SKU. Good news for the buyer if they catch the clearance.

You don't see it so much with brand names because the brand simply takes it back, and liquidate it some other way - rather than lowering the perceived value of that product on a store shelf. Its a branding thing.

I live in a densely populated region.
Retailers can move old labeled stock through service stations. You never see these clearances anymore.
For years now, the only deeply discounted oils are 'queer ducks' like specific motorcycle oils or extreme grades (racing oils).
Any retailer had only a few of each of any of those to begin with.
The oil clearance I benefitted from was when jugs went from 4 qt. to 5 qt.

That is insane @ $19.77. Crazy that it would last more than a couple of days going into the summer months. Goes to show how uninformed the average oil buyer is, bypassing it because it is not xw20.

I made another post about this oil a while back. They were clearing out QS EURO line as well. I think that they were just reducing the amount of SKUs. Getting rid of lousy sellers.

I had surmised that this "IMPORT" was rebottled PUP due it being available in the same 3 viscosities as actual PUP and also not bearing the DEXOS certification. Back when it was on ad it was never cheaper than actual PUP with rebate though.

Getting harder and harder to find 10w-30 these days. My preferred choice given that option.
I have said on here many times that I feel that 10w30 is an obsolete viscosity as 5w30s are so much better now than they were 30 years ago. And they usually have a better base oil in more recent formulations too.

In the same vein 5w20 and 5w40 are almost obsolete too since there are so many very well made 0w20s and 0w40s that can be used in their respective places.

??? I still see 10W-30 O'reilly's, STP, Napa, Supertech, Castrol GTX (New re-designed bottles)M1 and Mobil 5000??

Seems like just Valvoline and Pennzoil are moving away from the "heavies" 10W-30 and 10W-40??
