I would just like to see if the oil experts aprrove of my deccisions.

I drive a 2000 Crown Vic Police Interceptor. I went from whatever the police had in the car to Mobil 1 5w 30 and a Fram Extended gaurd Filter. I will be changing my oil soon to Oriely's brand oil and filter and doing an auto RXing to the engine.

When the Cleaning and rinse is all over I am planning on switching to Motocraft 5w 30, I haven't decided on a filter. Is this a good oil? What filter would you all recomend for my car. I would like to stick with one oil and one filter and stay with it. That way I can buy a case of filters to have on hand.

Motorcraft FL-820S

Available at your local Wal-Mart for less than $4.00

Motorcraft oil is good. I happen to really like Maxlife.

Motorcraft filters are good. I happen to really like Wix.

Another question, I have been running 5w 30. I know that Ford recomends 5w 20, but is that really important. I have heard various reasons why Ford switched to recomending 5w 20.

I would just use a basic SuperTech filter from Wal-Mart, along with Motorcraft oil. It's really good stuff, and those filters are much better than Fram, at nearly half the price.

For Ford products the Motorcraft filter is hard to beat, especially if you buy it at ChinaMart prices. Personally I see no reason to buy house brand motor oil. You can typically get name brand motor oil on sale for less than the house brand pricing. Or, buy your motor oil at Costco or Sams Club and again you can get name brand oil for less than most house brands.

5w30 or 5W-20 will both work fine in the Crown Vic.

The Ford filters (with "S" on the end) have silicone ADBVs, a nice litte extra for extended OCIs. MC is a good choice for oil. It is a synthetic blend for a great price point.

I tend to like the Motocraft FL-820-S oil filter with Motocraft 5w30 synthetic blend motor oil. All my Fords use the 5w20 and have turned in stellar UOAs'. You vehicle has been back dated to use 5w20, I'd give it a try and see if you like it. You can get either oil plus the filter for less than 16.00 at wally world. I run mine 3k to 5k depending on how I drive. I have to get off my butt and post the UOAs for my beaters - 03,04,05 crown vics, that show very good numbers with Motocraft products.

Motorcraft is fine -- so is a Supertech filter. There's been recent quality issues with Motorcraft filters -- reported over at the Oil Filters Forum-Board here.

My favorite is the Napa Gold/Wix ... fleetfilter.com

Since your car takes 5 quarts of oil, I would just go to walmart and pick up the 5 quart jugs of Mobil 1 5w30, they are still a good deal.

When it comes to filters, since you said you WANT to have a huge stash on hand, i would place a large order from fleetfilter.com. They have the best prices on WIX filters(napa gold), hands DOWN.

Here is what your car needs:
Link to the WIX filter web site for your car.

And here is where you buy them:

Can I ask you what this thing you are doing with M1 is all about? And why does it involve going to MC which is a blend *from* full-syn?

As far as filters go, go with the best ones made. Heard great things about Napa Gold, Bosch, Purolator. I am trying a tragic combo of big arse filter and a thick oil. I get good fluids tho which is the only consolation.

Mobil 1 oil is a great engine cleaner all by itself; I'd just keep using that and a Motorcraft filter. Forget about Auto Rx.

I thought that was true of Redline oil, but not Mobil 1. From what I have heard though, continued use of Mobil 1 (or most any synthetic) should prevent the engine from getting very dirty in the first place.

Mobil 1 V-twin motorcycle oil left deposits on my K1200LT sight glass to the point where I could not read the oil level. When I switched to Amsoil motorcycle oil, it eventually cleaned it up. Probably the same thing going on in my engine.

I dought it, my fleet of GM'ers live on a diet of M1 for most there life and of course there spotless in side

Its been awile since I've been on here.

I think I will do one cleaning phase with the auto rx, mainly because there is a little bit of gunk on the top end of the motor, and for $20 it is nice to know for sure that my engine is clean.

I think I will probably buy a bulk box of wix filter from that site, thanks for posting the link.

At this point I'm torn between mobil 1 and MotorCraft.

Torn could mean for some reasons you're not comfortable with either. Get Valvoline Maxlife blend. This formula is made with the same type groupIV base oil as Mobil 1.
