BITOG forums. Thing is our speculation is probably spot on. You know why because the owl told me so. I know about VWs and the Tiguan is a "Daddy's Girl" favorite. Dad probably bought it for her 16th B day or HS graduation and put a big bow on it too.

Often fueled and bolstered by real life experience. I saw a couple of teen girls in a minivan blow through a 4 way stop at 40+ MPH yesterday. Driver had her head down, passenger equally oblivious.

I'm shocked more folks are not killed by such antics.

What gets me wondering is the thought process of pedestrians who can't be bothered to look up from their phones to cross the street.

I'm confident that someday I will witness the drive and pedestrian, both focused on the phone, attempt to occupy the same space at the same time.

Will I look away, or will I watch the carnage? (Or will I shout look out?)

No. That was a separate incident, where some clueless women (with Progressive) stopped at a red light, and then proceeded to take off while the light was still red... and rear ended the back of the Sierra... bending the frame spurs behind the rear axle.

The Progressive adjuster approved all of the repairs at the body shop. But then, when it was time for him to pay the bill, he tried to pick and choose what he wanted to pay... and the body shop refused to play that sleezy game, and rightfully so.

Then Progressive calls us to demand that we return the rental car immediately (after their adjuster hadn't paid the bill at the body shop, and the truck was still there).

Real sleezy. Now that's Progressive!

Yup, it is really bad. I am guilty of being on my phone a lot, but I refuse to use it while driving, and if I am walking I stop to look at the phone. We used to have a car salesman at my work that was literally always on his phone. I used to love waiting at a doorway until he was 2 steps in front of it and fling the door open in his face. He never caught on to what I was trying to prove.

If you are concerned like I was when I had severe home damage (BMW 135i airborne, and into closed garage) I called my Home Insurer who subroated the claim. The insurer GEICO paid out in full no influence on my homeowners rates. The best part for me was I have full insurance with replacement cost. All our junky baby stuff (ready for donate) was sitting where BMW landed and we found out we were expecting and went on $1500 spree replacing it all with new.

Court order for phone records first and foremost. Get that out of her before anything else. I'd personally go after a few quotes to do all the repairs, and then sue her directly for the average cost estimate. This will get progressive to jump. I've dealt with these sleazy folks before and defeated them, despite never having taken a single law course. Most of the process is not rocket science, but the "Lawyers' Monopoly", in interest of maximizing profit, tries to limit access to use of the system for the common person.

Being firm and smarter than them goes a long way. Having a plan and letting them have an understanding of man-hours to get his to the end (they know what the burdened cost of their staff lawyers cost)... Since they are all about making others bleed, you need to start their bleeding of labor costs early, so that it becomes unaffordable to them to not meet your demands.

almost got run over by a minivan with a baby in my hands.in a library parking. on a read-to-your-toddler night.
the moving minivan was the product of a teen in a suv hitting the minivan coming out of a parking space!!!
HOW HARD YOU HAVE TO HIT A FULLY STOPPED AND PARKED, NO KEYS IN THE CONTACT MINIVAN TO MOVE IT?

And of course, she's insured by Progressive. Have already called them, and got a hold of someone who sounded like she had to look at a map of the U.S. to figure out exactly where "Illinois" is located. Here's a hint... midwest.

Maybe at least this time, they'll take the effort to come and look at the damage in one of those Ford Escapes that they drive around, instead of making me meet one of their adjusters at the worst body shop in the entire region.

And what did she tell the state trooper? The she was driving too fast. Thanks a lot there, Captain Obvious!

At least she didn't hit the 40 year old Pin Oak tree that she barely missed. That would have put her in the hospital for quite a while.


Too bad, honestly.

For your replacement landscaping, may I suggest something in multi-ton boulders?

So? wgaf? It's a Doctors office. What else is there to do except read old magazines? If she had sat down and opened a book would you've said the same thing. No, you wouldn't have. How do you know she wasn't reading on her phone?


No kidding...I was using my phone while waiting at the doctor's office last week. (I think I was on HERE, actually.)
 
I got rear ended this winter by a guy as I was sitting at a stop sign. He wasn't going fast but slid on the ice. We got out and I exchanged all the info got his DR license, insurance policy and plate numbers along with name and address.

He had Progressive Insurance. No police were called.

I called the 800 Progressive number the next day and everything was taken care of. All I had to do was drive to the body shop.

They paid for a rental and paid 100% of the bill. Could not have gone smoother. My only expense ws driving to the body shop.
 
I got a phone call from some idiot at Progressive today. I was quite shocked.

But not so fast... they'll get someone here by Wednesday. Maybe.

Oh, and by the way... I was asked "what is a salt kettle?"

I wanted to ask if he'd ever heard of a magical place called "Google" before?

This may shock you, but my generation has largely abandoned printed material and gone to reading those articles online...

They're no different than other companies. I was hit by an All State customer. The claim process wasn't easy.

To those that are saying sue for phone records, why? If she was on the phone, is she more at fault? Will the claim amount change?

It'll be a whole lot harder for the insurance company to deny fault on the part of their insured driver...
