Odyssey = ugly?

My diss on a Odyssey is the ride compared to a Toyota Sienna which feels like luxury on wheels. Honda is more carlike but still its just a minivan, why not be comfortable.

I hated the looks when it first showed up but now it looks fine to me. But I still prefer the classic lines of 99-04. No wonder Honda sold them by truck loads (I would have called boat loads, but those were made in US/Canada, so I presume they did not come by boat :-)

The Odyssey has NOT been good to my dad. leaking axle seals, ac compressor, 2 or 3 transmissions... AND NOW it looks like it will need a power steering pump. Honda "quality" died in the late 90's -early 00's. My step mom's van is an 07..owned since new... I'd take a ford Edge or something over this MASSIVE money pit.

BAsed upon what? The base model odyssey looks to me like a better deal than the base sienna.

I dont want leather and power doors and things that will fail on me and cost $ in the long run. Lifecycle cost is key.

I agree -- new Odyssey is quite ugly...almost as bad as the Quest. If I were forced to drive a minivan, it would be a Sienna SE. It's the best looking by far.

Agreed. Pretty much all of them have a softer ride than the Odyssey. It's always been this way. The other 'feature' you'll notice with the Odyssey is feeling every single up and down shift. The nature of Honda ATs I presume.

I don't dislike the looks of the 2011+ body style, I'm just not thrilled with it being lower to the ground and having a lower roof line than the 2010 and under.

My 2008 LX is low enough. My darling bride did away with some of the plastic under the front fascia and engine bay long ago due to this. Nothing to do with the driving skill of course.

I'd also stay away from the new models with the 6spd ATs. Honda supposedly got the 5spd AT right from 2007+ but who knows.

I always recommend going with the more basic models due to their simplicity. Our "bare bones" LX takes a beating several times a day and is holding up well. We're at just under 60K miles and have owned it since Feb '08.

We have owned both a 2000 and a 2006 Odyssey and have liked the looks of both. My wife and I looked at this one and said no way.
IMO, the last time I saw something this hideous, it was a Pontiac Aztec.
We both are in agreement, we would rather drive mules than the new body style Odyssey.

It is neither ugly nor pretty, just different.
IMHO, Honda needs to hire some designers from the UK, Italy or Germany, or all three.
Honda once made some really attractive cars.
Not too many left whether badged as H or A.
Anyway, among minivans, this is probably the best driving one.
In stylistic terms, at least it isn't a complete box.
It would be much better looking with a smooth beltline, sans the bizarre little kick-up at the rear of the sliding doors, which could be easily fixed with new skins for the sliding doors and a smaller third side window.
