Bought a salvaged Vue V6 AWD with 22K(not the Honda motor, they stopped in 07) runs excellent, just had to replace the fenders, hood, front clip, radiator, and rad support.

Since it's a salvage, I couldn't talk to the original owner, although I know it's an older woman.

Runs great, but IF she neglected it, how bad could the motor be sludged? It bugs me that I don't know the maintenance history, but buying a salvaged car saved me about 9 grand..

What are some things I could do to make sure the motor is running smooth (aside from flushes). What's a good cleaning oil? any additives necassary?

And finally, suggest an oil and filter for short trip, stop and go, alight highway usage. Thanks!

New formula Pennzoil and a couple of 3-4k miles changes should do well. If it isn't the Honda 3.5L, then it must be the 3.6L non-DI V6. With it being winter you could use the recommended dosage of MMO to add alittle more cleaning.

Any sane person will take pride and good care of a car for at least the first year, plus most dealers will provide a free first oil change with a new car. Even if it were just changed once, that's probably fine with 22k.

Sounds cool, wish I had time to do a project like that. Did you job out the paint?

in the PQIA motor oil comparison Valvoline conventional had the best cold temp cold cranking viscosity result, so Valvoline is my suggestion.

How does PYB compare to oil like Havoline's Deposit Shield?

PYB seems to be the favorite convential around here. Is that solely because of the cleaning agents?

So PYB would be better for the first few OCI's as compared to platinum? Is that because I should do short OCI's to better clean so as not to waste money on a synthetic?

Thanks for your help!

At only 22K I doubt it would be sludged badly even if the oil had never been changed, a couple changes with about any good synthetic would surely clean it...

You CAN look for tell tale signs such as in the filler opening, upper area of the dipstick, etc...

How did the Title go on that? You welded on a Front Clip? Ill bet it needed new paint. Where did you take it, how much paid?

Oh, and use 5w30.

So they sold it WITH a Title? See, i have something similar going on.. My car title is LOST and previous owner has gone away. (Long story.)

Id seek out the "2007 Redline Perfoemance Package" of this car and yes the Honda engine was named GM L66 I wiki'd it, and its a nice one. Id buy it for its Honda engine, and the Performance package if i could find it i dont like the redesign much.

Wish me luck with mine its sitting In the Graveyard and i need to make it rise from the Dead.
