New Guidelines for Cholesterol Readings

I dont agree for the vast majority of people and people should not take this advice without a discussion with a heart specialist.
Well of course.

Doctors and "professionals" got us here. When you are in a hole and want out? Stop digging. The main thing I agree with most docs on is:

Be more active. Aerobic and resistance training. Diet advice? Nope.

That's all I will say.

Im a big believer in medical advancements and researching/choosing the right doctors as well as my own research.
Depending on who you are your your condition statins are a blessing.

No cure/drug for Lipoprotein A
However modern medicine dictates getting the LDL as low as possible to help possible offset this horrible problem.
No matter what you do 80 to 90% of the LIPO A is hereditary. (statins do not help)

https://www.heart.org/en/health-topics/cholesterol/genetic-conditions/lipoprotein-a-risks

My level is 116.5 - nmol ( just learned this form my own post so not as bad if it was mil)
https://www.cdc.gov/heart-disease-family-history/about/about-lipoprotein-a.html

You MAY have been tested recently, if not, you will soon one day. Being I know you take care of yourself you WILL want to know the results just like you want to know you LDL.
Science says 1 in 5 people in this forum have high Lipo A

I’m glad you’re happy with your treatment, Al. My research for me has provided data that I’m better served by controlling my diet and exercise, without including the additional risks of statins. I’ve occasionally used red yeast rice, which has made positive changes in the numbers the doctor was low-level concerned about.

I’ve come to grips with my mortality; while I don’t want it hastened, I’m not going to take 16 pharmaceuticals all with their own side effects and assorted counteracting drugs just trying to prolong the years that a nursing home will destroy the financial legacy I’m trying to leave to my children.

I was prescribed statins but will not take them. All my my extremities went numb when taking the lowest dose. My mother took them for a while and she suffered permanent nerve damage from it destroying her ability to drive. I use alternative methods.

A lot of drug studies are underwritten by drug companies themselves. Often cannot be trusted.

Remember when the tobacco products were touted for health? Guess who paid for those studies.

Articles from the 20s and 30s for the Tour de France cyclists, they would smoke cigarettes with the belief that the cigarette smoke opened up their lungs and Airways to enhance more oxygen into their blood!

And nothing beats a good slab of mutton along with deep fried pork rind for breakfast.

But I degrass as I have used slick 50 in my engine oil many times:-)

Seriously search about

If you search for something specific on the internet chances are you will find it.

Here's my advice. If there's one type of advice to never take from random people on the internet (youtubers, forums, etc), it's medical advice.

Talk to your doctor. Get a 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th) opinion from other doctor(s).

*I do take cholesterol medication because of my higher cholesterol due to mainly family history. Even though I eat great and exercise regularly and watch everything I do, my cholesterol is still a bit high
*I would love to get off of this med and believe that they're not the best thing for me. HOWEVER!
*I am sick & tired of hearing from non medically trained people that they themselves think that I should just stop taking my medication based on their internet reading/searching or whatever.
Do I believe that I can get off of this med and not have a stroke? IDK!

I have a SIL(Miss Know-it-all) that thinks because her doctor friend says something, that it's gospel for everyone.
She says to me, "I think you should get off that medication". My Dr. friend says...Bla-Bla-Bla!

So I ask my SIL these 5 Questions:

1) What do you know about my whole personal medical history the way my PCP & Cardiologist know about me, because of testing & documentation? Her comment...I don't know anything!

2) What do you know about my whole family medical history the way my PCP & Cardiologist know because of testing, record keeping/documentation? Her comment...I don't know anything!

3) When have you diagnosed me in a medical setting along with a team of medical professionals? Her comment...I haven't!

4) Where did you get your medical degree? Her comment...I don't have the degree!

5) What does you Dr. Friend's medical degree have to do with you? Her comment...NOTHING!

This is no BS, this actually happens to me even among friends who think they're a doctor. I ask them the same 5 Q's and get the same response.

For those researching statins, also research red yeast rice. Of course your doctor won’t recommend it to you since they can’t patent it in natural form, but let your research show you that the active component of red yeast rice (monacolin K) is actually what they use in statins for reducing hypercholesteremia but without the nasty side effects. As always, not medical advice, but your health is your decision.

Here’s a Pubmed article to kick off your research:

Someone has to finish last in class at medical school. They still graduated though. It seems these doctors all work in industrial medicine for some reason.🧐
