Did you do any research on what was actually being proposed before spouting this opinion?Battleships are obsolete in the age of Mach 2 aircraft and Missiles. We don't need no stinking Battleships A bigger ship is just a bigger target.

Very trueI feel that it would be a very good thing to have the government and these industries team up with the schools to create a pathway to these trades. It would give the dept of education something worthwhile to do, and strengthen the country.
What happens if the target is 30+ miles away?I would think the "new ones" would look exactly like the uss New Jersey, USS North Carolina, USS Texas, ect because thats what they would be.
Battleships with 16 inch thick armor firing 1 ton armor piercing ammo 20+ miles that can't be stopped would disrupt most current naval strategic planning by US enemies. Everything is all about carriers these days. All the anti ship missiles that are designed to sink carriers aren't going to slow down a Battleship.
Now we’re talking - the name is being used, because of size, but the ship is different from the WW II ships called by the same name in every way that matters. While they are being called "battleships," these new ships have less in common with the old WWII battleships that bristled with 16" guns. These new ships will be more like a super-sized modern cruiser armed with lots and lots of missiles, lasers, and rail guns that can shoot things hundreds of miles away.
30 miles away is point blank range to a modern naval vessel. This new "battleship" isn't going to have 16" guns. The modern naval equivalent of the 16" gun is an F/A-18E Super Hornet or an anti ship missile. What happens if the target is 30+ miles away?
I didn't need to do any research on a, out of box, bad idea.Did you do any research on what was actually being proposed before spouting this opinion?
Are you sure? This announcement is a bit odd since Congress hasn't allocated any funding for any of these proposed programs. And what I'm getting is that "battleship" is rather poor branding for this proposed class of naval vessel. I suspect that it's never going to be built.
Are you sure?
The defense bill has $26 billion for ships - there will only be two of these initially …It certainly hasn't been budgeted. This is merely a proposal.

Years of FEED - may not cut steel for 5 years …
If someone wants to pour through these tables and figure out where - that would be interesting. I don't have the patience or expertise. The defense bill has $26 billion for ships - there will only be two of these initially …

I am sort of there also. But I have learned to never underestimate there ability to spend money. This announcement is a bit odd since Congress hasn't allocated any funding for any of these proposed programs. FEED/R&D is all engineering - no crazy money gets budgeted until procurement phases start … Some other fiscal period …I am sort of there also. But I have learned to never underestimate there ability to spend money.
One Nuclear tipped missile or torpedo will obliterate, whatever they call the thang.
But we can do that now with all our nuclear attack submarines, of which there are several of the new ones currently under construction apparently? And a hundred more nuclear missiles will fly back.
