I recently junked my 93 Aerostar and couldn't pass on a car my father was going to trade in. I figure this will get me through until I'm ready to pull the trigger on the new Wrangler.

These are shots from a 2000 Century which had 84,655 miles when I got it. It was dealer serviced up until 18,325 miles then Avis Lube serviced, and a local shop serviced it for my dad. It got 3,000 mile Conventional oil changes, some were a hair under 3K some a little over, no OCI exceeded 3,500 miles. My father is in his 80's and there is no telling him to run the oil any longer. It got Mobil, Kendall, or Pennzoil products, and a no frills filter. I have every invoice for service since day 1, he was the original owner. This is severe service Long Island NY use.

This what it looked like when I started.

So much for conventional keeping an engine varnish free. There was no sludge visible, just heavy varnish. No coolant is being lost.
Here is a before shot, my wife took the first during shots. I will continue to update this thread in real time if there is enough of an interest. This should prove if Kreen works or not at cleaning up varnish, and how long it takes.

Start Kreen 9/20/12 84,752 miles.

Kreen 9/24/12 84,813 miles.
This is after 61 miles. The improvement was pretty impressive, I'm only sorry my wife didn't take the first shot.

The current fill is a Mobil product which had close to 3K miles on it. I was planning on using Kreen for the last 1,000 miles of the OCI, so this worked out well. I might dump it early depending on how things look. This will be the longest OCI this car ever had.

I will try and do updates in as close to real time as possible, as opposed to way after the fact. Real time will keep things on the up and up, and hopefully benefit someone here.

Disclaimer/warning- Please don't turn this into a flame war, or attacking me on my photo skills, or methods. I do plan on cleaning the exterior of the engine for you guys thinking I switched cars or something like that [assuming we see positive results]. If it gets out of hand I will stop posting pictures and updating this thread.

It did have a slight tick, which was gone in about 20 minutes of errand running.

One heck of a difference for such a short time.

Kreen is for people like me who can't stand waiting for months.

The word is "EFFECTIVE"!

Good luck and thanks for posting.

I'm interested.

Steve I wish I could have gotten a better shot of the before! The difference was quite impressive.

HyundaiGuy I will keep up with the thread if the interest is there.

LOL Thanks. Lets hope this thread doesn't get locked. We might actually get something out of it.

They might just have the power to get this thread locked, or try real hard to. I sure hope not......................Lets not antagonize them.

On a more serious note I will do my best to update in realistic increments the results one way or another. I didn't realize how easy an engine this was to take fill hole pics of. My E-150, Jeep, and now departed Aerostar were impossible to photograph. My wife is cooperating too. LOL

BUT...

...if we are using those two photos as evidence... I'm sorry your honor, but there just isn't enough to convict.

Those two pictures show NOTHING happening. The difference in the flash getting into the fill hole vs not, is the only difference I can tell.

I'm not nay-saying, I'm just saying.

I enjoy threads that document our experiments well. I just don't see anything here (yet!).

Kreen seems to be a good product for cleaning up a neglected engine.

I sold my 2002 Century last spring with close to 140K and the inside of the engine looked like new thru the fill hole. I had always done 3K OCI's until coming to this site and then started extending them a bit especially when I ran full syn. I think I actually went 7K on one OCI of syn. that included mostly highway driving over a 3 month interval.

My 100+ mile round trip commute into NYC insured a lot of highway driving and I don't think I ever exceeded 4 months on an OCI.
The Century is an excellent car in the snow and the highway MPG is very good. They do have a propensity to rust on the underside but the 3.1 is very durable if the intake manifold is looked after.
I used Mobil 1 ATF and did my first change at 36K followed by another at 96K (both times included a pan drop, new filter and a bottle of LG red). The transmission shifted like new when I sold her.

I changed out the plugs and T-stat when I did a precautionary i-m gasket replacemnet at about 80K. I ran an Auto-RX cleaning at about 80K but I really doubt it was needed. I D&R'd the anti-freeze several times using a Dexclone and usually added Barsleaks as a precaution.
All in all that Buick was an EXCELLENT car and I have no doubt it will go over 300K if not crashed.

Demarpaint: I have some parts that will fit your car that I'll sell reasonably if your interested.
IE: new front rotors, 6 new NGK (OE) Iridium plugs, air filters, oil filters, transmission filter etc...PM me if your interested...

Give it time, more pictures will be coming as I update the thread. I knew the before shot was going to be a problem for someone here, I thought I explained that pretty well in my first post. But you do have an open mind since you used the word "yet". I was reluctant to even start this thread for that reason. Problem is I only had one chance at the before shots, I took them and poured in the Kreen. Hopefully the future pictures will be better. There was a noticeable difference looking down the fill hole, but not everyone will believe me. So more to come, good bad or otherwise.

I was just pointing out that the pictures shown [that you did disclaim] weren't evidence for us. Your testimonial so far is. I'd give that stuff a try if it was easier to get in CA as I just picked up a car with 142k on it. I actually just ordered a LC20/FP60 starter kit to try (haven't used LC20 before).

I realize what you were saying, and knew it would come up as weak evidence. My testimony to some people, I'm not saying you, is worthless, i realize that too. The pictures will tell a story, lets see what kind of story they tell. Quite honestly there is nothing in this for me, so it really doesn't matter how this works out. If I had an agenda I would have taken pictures and waited for the outcome, then posted, that's not the case here. But then again there will be those who might think I already know the outcome, and have a set of pictures already. Oh well....................

No way and give up my paycheck from Turtle Wax? Never!!!! I'll use it in the gas, and from time to time to keep things clean. From what I've seen so far Kreen is much faster than MMO, but I already knew that from reading here,

and trying it for myself.

One does have to ask if you set it up so light was consistent for both shots. That is a critical detail.

I have to agree, due to the photos there's honestly nothing proven yet, But ive never known Deparm to be a fanboy or salesman of anything on BITOG. My opinion ive always found his post informative and impartial.. im looking forward to seeing where the pictures go.

They may feel free to present the case once new evidence is offered. Case dismissed without prejudice.

Nah he just goes in just about every ARX thread saying to use MMO, as per the late Gary Allan. :
