My Kreen test.

Here's an update: I ran the Kreen for 1,000 miles, the slight lifter tick gone. Down the fill hole is an improvement, however not good enough to show up on the pictures. I'm 2000 miles into the fresh oil and will add another pint of Kreen 1000 miles before I drop the oil again. I will try and get pictures up soon.

Thanks for hanging with it!

This pic is about 2,350 miles after the Kreen mixed oil was changed. The oil is actually pretty clean on the stick and on a rag. The valve springs that are visible are cleaning up slowly.

This is about the best I can do quality wise.

I'd be wasting oil, its winter, cold, and I'd rather not be laying on the cold ground jerking around with the car.

I can relate.

No, but the company specifically says that one was developed from the other. Can't remember who was first, but I do know Kreen is a very old product.

I've used kroil on the bore's of my rifles, it's supposed to get underneath the fouling and clean it away, I have about a half a can that I thought about poring in my dad's Buick 3.8, it's suffered alot of short trips and low rpm's. I had originally thought a short 3k oci with mmo, now I'm thinking the same with my kroil.

Nothing additional to report. I'm due for an oil change in a few weeks, the improvement is slow and steady, not worth taking any additional pictures at this point. It's about the same as the pictures I posted 12/23.

Here's a fresh set of pictures, I haven't been driving that much but that's going to be changing soon.

Here's what's been done and the miles: at the oil and filter was changed at 85,815 at 88,500 miles a pint of Kreen was added. At 89,494 miles I added another 8 ounces. The oil was changed at 90,491. There is about 1,500 miles on the oil and it is clean. For some reason the pictures make it look dirty.

Looks like Kreen is slowly getting that engine cleaned up. I might buy some myself. I have used MMO but never Kreen.

I'm taking a conservative approach. I added a pint for the last 1,000 miles of the OCI for the first run. For the second run I'll round off the numbers, I added a pint ran it for about 1,000 miles then added another 8 ounces and ran that about another 1,000 miles. The total OCI was just under 5,000 miles, the Kreen was in for about 2,000 miles of that interval.

I don't remember how much I added to the gas. Depending on tank size you can add up to a pint to a tank of gas.

Do you notice any differences in how the engine performs or has it basically stayed the same as before treatment.
And I noticed you said the oil was clean at 1000 miles. Now it that oil treated or are you only treating the oil towards the end of the oci.
Thank you for testing, taking pics and posting for us. I appreciate the effort you are putting in.

Yes, thanks a lot for all of the testing and showing us the results of the testing. It looks to me like the engine has become somewhat cleaner on the inside. And the lifter noise stopped.

This is a nice, friendly, informative post-the kind I would like to see more of here. It is nice to visit a thread and be able to find useful information, photographs to document cleaning, and friendly discussion. And I appreciate the effort demarpaint put in to give us this information and documentation of cleaning. Obviously he did not have to do any of this-he could have kept it to himself.

As I mentioned in the beginning I had a slight tick which was eliminated in no time flat after Kreen was added and has not returned.

The current fill is untreated, any treatments were done toward the end of the OCI, so in reality I'm really not following their directions. I have no plans on adding any more Kreen, if I do I would wait until the winter. The oil is much cleaner now than it would normally be after a Kreen treatment, but there is still some cleaning going on.

That little engine runs great, in all fairness though I tuned it up so I can't give any credit to Kreen for improving how it runs. The original plugs and wires were in the car for 86,776 miles, they weren't that bad but certainly were due for a change.

I have a feeling that Kreen did a pretty good job attacking that garbage, and oil alone will do some additional cleaning. When the weather gets cold again I might give MMO a shot, continue with Kreen, or try synthetic oil in it. Synthetic oil is something that was never used in that engine.
