My experience with valvoline R&P and oil consumption

Two OC

2036 miles,
It burned <1/8qt

I added barely anything from a spare qt of the same 0w20 r&p.

I am blown away, I expected some oil burn since it has been regular for the last 3 years. But this is the least it has ever burned from an oc back in april.

I will be using this oil at least for the next 3 ocs.
Two OCs at 6K mi each with R&P in my 2019 Sonata 2.4L. Zero oil consumption each time. Car now has 36K mi. No previous history on consumption prior to 23K mi when I bought the car.

*Conversrly , I have a Kia Seltos 2.0L run on M1 5W30 EP and 5W30 ESP for mostly 4K mile / 6 month OCI (except fir cross country trip twice) that never burned a drop of oil - now with VRP 5W30 I’m getting oil consumption of almost 1 quart over a 4K mile OCI . It’s a well maintained engine , so while there may be some ring cleaning - everything else should be clean .

I have a 2021 hyundai kona 2.0 awd.

It started burning oil in 2022.

It has a history of all top tier brand name synthetics with fram ultra filters, and recently fram ultra synthetic endurance filters, as well as top tier gasoline used almost always.

I had an OC with Valvoline 0w-20 R&P
1700+ miles ago with 0 burn.

For the last 3 years it would consume .5qt-.7qt oil in 1000mi/1600km.

It did not have the recall for the earlier year kona's with piston ring problems it just missed that year deadline by a few months.

I am very impressed with this oil. For me it is not a gimmick. I am still getting 30+mpg in town as I did with the other brands I used. (castrol, pennzoill, quakerstate, royalpurple)
But for the first time in 3 years no oil burn. It didn't meet hyundai warranty because it was less than 1qt/1000mi.

I will be using this oil at least for the recommended 4 oc's and probably longer.

I have been checking the oil every fuel fill up and have a log of it going well over 1000mi/1600km with 0 burn.
Looks like you have found your forever oil with this vehicle.

This is interesting. So far I have been hearing more about how VRP increased the oil consumption in old engines. And here you have the exact opposite experience, in a new car. Looks like this works for you, keep using it!

Btw many GR86 owners opt for 5w30, rather than 0w20 that in suggested in the manual. One of the reasons is the oil consumption. I tracked my car on 0w20, and there was a noticable burn after a single track day (roughly 90min of track driving + 150 miles highway). Tried two different 5w30 oils so far, zero burn with either of them.
