Well I went ahead and pulled the trigger on 2 cases of the fully synthetic 5w-40 and 2 cases of the syn-blend 5w30. I was initally going to get Amsoil SSO but quickly stopped myself from doing it because of the fact that I have to pay tax and shipping and membership. I also already ran Amsoil once before.

I went on Amazon and purchased the 4 cases of Eneos along with 2 Purolator Pure1 I have the Amazon Prime membership so I get free 2 day shipping.

Impressions:

Well after hearing all the good stuff about the fully synthetic oils from Eneos I went straight for the 5w40. There have been reports that the oil smells like alcohol. I think it actually smells like Bailey's Irish Cream lol. When I poured it into the funnel I noticed that it wasn't the average synthetic amber color. This oil looked like corn syrup almost clear actually.

Once I got the car all situated I took it on a 50 mile to and from trip and burned less than a quarter of a tank.

I must say that I'm extremely impressed so far. I'll be sure to have a UOA done on the 2nd run of this 5w40. If the gas mileage stays the way it is, I may end up selling the 5w30 cases to buy more 5w40.

The previous oil was Pennzoil Ultra 5w30, which was run for 4k miles.

Car is 2009 Subaru Impreza 2.5i

almost every vehicle i have driven/owned, none of them drop linearly. i'd use mpg as a way to measure gas mileage.

when my fuel needle is at 3/4 from full, i have ran about 130
at 1/2 i'm at 220
at 3/4 i'm at 300
1mm above E bar, i'm at 370

Like green or purple or red, the "amber color" in most oils is also just a dye. All group I-IV base oils necessarily have the color of distilled petroleum of that weight - which is almost-clear pale straw, or like corn syrup as you described.

Group IV, Group III, and Group II (if it's hydrocracked) are all clear (water white). The color of the finished motor oil is a product of dyes or the additive package or both.
