my controversial oil opinions

1. The thinnest motor oil I acknowledge the existence of is 30 weight. 20 weight and thinner does not exist in my world.

2. Most everyone here cares way too much about oil, including me. Most everyone in the driving public doesn't care enough. The "right" amount of caring is a lot closer to the driving public than it is to here, though.

3. I don't care about noack.

4. Despite my username, don't care for German cars and refuse to own one. Exception could possibly be made for a white elephant Unimog. Nothing to do with oil, but #3 reminded me that my girlfriend's TDI Beetle has a DPF and it made me doubly glad that's her car and not my problem.

Add to the list. What have you got?
Would you take a free Golf R if you had to keep it as your main car for 10 years to get it free? Would you?:)

For free, absolutely not.

Maybe if they paid me. I'd have to drive it for a bit, see how annoying it is, and then name a figure. It would have to include a 100% maintenance package, I refuse to even know where the hood latch release is.

Back in the late 1980's I used to hang out with this person that had a Volkswagen Gulf, exterior was blue, interior was blue cloth, 5 speed manual transmission, fun little car. The AC on this car was awesome during the summertime, this guy wrapped 1 of his AC hoses, that is why the Ac was so cold, he ran Castrol GTX 10W-40, his brother had a car like his, but it was the GTI, he decided to put an external oil cooler on, something was not tight, and for maybe 1/4th of a mile you could see a trail of oil in the middle of the street.

I am sure other members have interesting Volkswagen stories?

My A1/Mk1/first gen in the USA 1983 Golf GTI was actually ordered by me without either AC, or an audio system (I did get the 'radio prep kit' installed as an option, for an added aftermarket Alpine system after purchase).

Yes, until my current ride, that was THE most 'tossable' little car I've ever driven (but then I've never driven a "the answer to everything is a Miata").
