Oreilly Motor Oil for a 97 Buick Park Ave?

Isn't there a $60 annual membership fee as well?
There is, but you can make that up quite quickly with the money you save there, especially with the gas. In my area the Costco is usually ten cents per liter cheaper on gas so it’s not long before I make up the cost of the membership. And the $1.50 hot dog/drink deal is a great savings for a quick lunch too.

As other said, walmart is usually the best price overall. 5 qt Supertech HM synthetic oil and filter for < $25 is reasonable, but rebates can bring the name brands to even less $$. Amazon usually has similar prices but autozone STP oil/filter/air filter combo is hard to beat if you need the air filter.

Not in our area. Costco gas is the middle price between the cheap station and the high priced ones

Buy your oil @ Walmart or Costco. I buy filters @ hone depo and Lowes as those are lower priced than the parts stores.
Just curious. Why don't you buy your oil filters at Walmart if you're buying your oil from Walmart?

I should have said in my OP... I already ordered a Baldwin oil filter from Amazon. Baldwin offers B43-S filter as standard for Buick Park Ave, or B35-S if I want a double length filter that holds twice the oil.

I bought a double length B35-S for $1 more than standard length B43-S. I'm picky about filters, even though I'm less picky about oil. Baldwin makes very good filters.

Supertech filters are the same as ac delco oem- which is def a very good choice for a frugal individual

Your GM 3.8 engine is known to be long lived even under hard use and minimal upkeep. I'd keep my focus on the 4t65e transmission with a bad reputation for longevity when used under demanding conditions. With regular atf changes and a transmission cooler it should last a while.

You save $60 in only a couple months, should you buy their fuel. You'll need a VISA credit card there for physical card purchases, not Mastercard.

O'Reilly oil is fine for that Park Ave. Use the correct viscosity or a little thicker.

That’s interesting that you can’t use Mastercard in Costco in the USA because up here in Canada it has always been the opposite, we can’t use Visa.

If you aren’t picky on the oil and already have filters then just grab whatever is cheapest and/or convenient. Whichever suits the situation the best.

You read my mind. I was thinking about my transmission last night. My car had 50K hard miles on it down in very hot South California. Soon after I bought it, I had the transmission oil flushed and replaced with conventional transmission oil, and trans filter replaced at that time.

15 years and another 50K (mostly easy) miles have passed since then (driving it in Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington). So moderate temps most of the time with occasionally very cold or hot temps. 75/25 highway/city miles for total 50K miles since last trans oil change.

So only 50K miles on trans oil since past changed, but 15 years. I don't have a transmission cooler. My climate is usually moderate and driving style conditions moderate.

How many years does conventional transmission oil last in moderate conditions/use?

That's great info to know. Maybe next time I'll use a Supertech filter to save money.

Baldwin filters are superior for offroaders because their cans are very thick/tough and won't puncture from flying gravel or tree branches that might puncture an average oil filter when off pavement or offroad. I started using Baldwin in my Jeeps when I was an avid offroader.

I still like Baldwin for when my Buick drives on gravel roads, but these days I rarely drive on gravel roads. So a Supertech or AC Delco would be fine.

I'm sure I could cross reference Baldwin to still buy a compatible double length filter in Supertec or any other brand.

With Baldwin or Wix, a double length filter only costs $1 more than standard length filter. So likely that applies across all brands. My cousin prefills the filter before installing.

I ordered Valvoline Maxlife High Mileage 5w30 from Walmart. A 5 quart jug only cost $19.97. My car only needs 4.5 quarts. I also ordered a bottle of Blue Devil Oil Stop Leak and a bottle of Stabil fuel stabilizer.

The Maxlife regular price at Walmart cost less than Oreilly house brand oil. Other items also cost less at Wallys.

What sealed the deal was Wallys free shipping on orders over $35. Thank you DrTyler for telling me about Walmart's free shipping earlier in this thread!

After reading this thread, I now have full confidence in Oreilly brand oil, Supertec, and Kirkland, and all autostores house brands; but Valvoline Maxlife Red bottle at Walmart is so low price and with free shipping it was irresistable.

Thank you everyone for your advice.

With that 4Runner get a can of this amsoil stuff and spray all the lower door seams down. Dad started it with my moms 2015 and it’s still clean. He also does the frame and such too. We’ve started doing it with our 2022 as well.
