5w-30 Synthetic High Mileage Oil questions

Maxlife Blend is working well and car leaked a lot less with the Blend. My car seems to like it. Maxlife Syn was thinner and leaked a lot more when I used to use it. This week I had valve cover gasket replaced. That will solve that leak. Hopefully there's no other leaks. We'll see. Still using ML Blend at this time.

However, I think in future I might be able to have even better lubrication from a HM Syn and still not leak if it's a bit thicker than the ML Syn.

So I'm looking at 5w30 HM Syn oils that are thicker than ML Syn.
If you are wanting a thicker syn hm run Mobil 1 HM 10w40 then.

You will not gain anything in a full synthetic unless you are running long drain intervals. Your motor will run on anything you put in it just fine. Those 3.8l's run forever if taken care of, just change the oil regularly 5k for blends is easily doable.

I'm generally not fan of Mobil One (mainly because it has less op temp viscosity than most brands) but in this case I see your point. A thick 5w30 or thin 10w40 Syn HM might be good for my application. Mobil One HM 10w40 is probably thin (for a 10w40) because other M1 products (whose spec sheets I did look at) are typically thin. For example Mobil One 5w30 HM is thin (for a 5w30).

The Maxlife Blend is doing well for not leaking or burning. However...

If I could find a thick enough HM Syn, I'd be just as well off for not leaking or burning, have better lubrication, and mostly importantly to me I'd have slower rate of oxidation.

If I had a synthetic with slow rate oxidation, I could continue changing my oil every 3-4 years as I did for the the prior 12 years.

I used Maxlife Synthetic 5w30 for over a decade changing it every 3 to 4 years (which is 400-500 miles for me). It always looked like new at 1 & 2 years, and almost like new at 3 years. Never foamy, and even at 3 years it was medium brown (only slightly darker than new oil).

I partially attribute that to storing my car in a passively heated garage. My car is never colder than 55F when started, and usually is around 60-70F when started. I think that helps keep oil and engine cleaner, but also the Maxlife is good oil too.

This week my valve cover gaskets were replaced to resolve a slow leak. My mechanic told me the valvetrain looks exceptionally clean. So I'm confident my engine is staying clean and not sludging. Also, my full size car averages 32-34 mpg at 70 mph on road trips and it runs smooth and has good power.

My 3.5 year OCIs (with visual oil inspection every 3 months) was working well with Maxlife Synthetic. A few months ago I switched Maxlife Blend to reduce leaks. Blend did reduce leaks compared to Syn, but Blend will oxidize faster than Syn.

If I continue using Maxlife Blend longterm, I should reduce my OCI from 3.5 yrs to 2.5 years. That's not a big deal, but if I could find a thick enough synthetic HM oil, I could have my cake and eat it too. A slightly thick synthetic HM would probably not leak and would allow me to continue having 3.5 yrs OCI and clean engine.

If I could find a thick enough HM Syn oil that's also designed for extended OCI, then I might even try a 4 or 5 year OCI (with visual oil inapections every 3 months).

Yes I'm looking for the holy grail, but I've found some likely contenders and there might be others I don't know about yet. I'm having fun exploring options for my next oil change 2.5 years from now.

Thicker Syn HM oils that I know about so far:
Valvoline Extended Protection HM 5w30
Pennzoil Platinum HM 5w30
Mobil One HM 10w30 (M1 5w30 is too thin IMO)
Amsoil HM specs?
Kendall GT HM specs?
Euro HM synthetic oils?

If temp controlled, run M1 HM 10w40 or 10w30 if that's what you want. I'd stick with the Maxlife Red bottle 5w30 if it was me. I'd also change the oil once a year but you do you.

No experience with the HM version of Valvoline EP, but just wanted to say the regular 5w30 version is very robust .. lot's of body to it. Out of the jug, it seems and acts more like a 5w40. I've seen many videos from very knowledgeable youtubers claiming the add pak in EP is among the best there is. In fact, several recommend running HM EP in in non HM vehicles as well. I don't think you can go wrong here and sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

Update...
Valvoline EP HM is thicker than M1 EP HM and much thicker than PP HM. I personally think V EP HM is the best synthetic HM oil available from Walmart. So the best for the money, IMO.

Valvoline EP HM 5w30 data sheet claims 11 cSt @ 100KV. In another thread it's VOA was tested and was 10.9 cSt IRL, which makes it a higher cSt IRL than most of the six 5w30 HM oils VOAs tested in that thread. I can't provide a link because I'm not seeing/finding that thread again.

Amsoil HM oil data sheet specs claims 11.1 cSt @ KV100, which is good if it tests that cSt IRL.

Maybe Kendall HM is good too? I have no data for Ken doll. Kendall owns Redline so I assume Kendall is good.
