Has A40 approval which I didn’t know about.

Any reason not to use this over M1 0w40? Don’t care about the cost. I do like the higher HTHS. Anyone know the NOACK?

Most of the time I drive my 718 2.5 GTS there is some red lining after it’s warmed up. A track day or two in between annual oil changes but far below the 10k distance.

I do not know the NOACK, but there is a better oil out there with a Lower NOACK, this oil from Mobil should serve you well. The specs on this oil seem really good. I see a Copyright Date of 2016 on the bottle, after a few Refreshments my Eyesight is still there.

The last time I saw a Noack for this grade it was 7.6%.

Engine may not rev as freely in day-to-day. Obviously fine as a track oil.

You made me check,

Looks like it doesn’t have A40 anymore?! Wow.
It still has 229.3, I thought the number was 229.5, must be a misprint or I do not know anything.
Let me look at my script here, LOL.

Mobil 1 oils are awesome, they are not perfect, you live in a certain state, and your state has no problems with Mobil 1, so use that oil and keep driving and then when you get home, sleep with no worries.

A lead engineer at XOM told me that the FS X2 5W-50 API SP has the exact same additive package as the FS 0W-40 SP. Thus, it will basically have A40 unless Porsche has decided to disqualify it because it's a 50 grade or for some other reason. The BMW approval is also missing now, I think this is probably a PDS mistake or simply grade related.

I trust Mobil or XOM, whatever they are called over Porsche or BMW. The only thing I can say about Mobil, is list the HTHS and NOACK Numbers for all of your oils. Also, put a SDS Sheet out for all of their oil's.

I knew a neighbor that had a 1997 Porsche 911, it might have been the last hand-built Porsche. Anyway, his engine was Air-cooled, and the oil capacity was 12 quarts, he was using Brad Penn Oil.

"0W-40, 5W-40 and 5W-50 advanced full synthetic motor oils approved against Porsche spec A40"

Currently on Mobil's website. Good oil and was my go-to until I switched the older family P wagens to Redline 10w-50 & 60.

Cheers, w

Tell us you don't understand how approvals work, without telling us that you don't understand.

229.5 only allows 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30 or 5W-40. Older MB grades allow for more viscosities

Approvals with oil's are a joke, I do not care about the approvals because the so-called approvals are not in my best interests.
Whether you care or not, or whether it is in your best interest or not, does not have anything to do with the fact that you don't know anything about it.

Yep, this part.

MB229.5 has a minimum HTHS, which can be met only by those grades. Also, fuel efficiency requirements limit oils to those grades. The approval, like all Euro approvals, is based on HTHS. Few exemptions like VW 5044.00 exist, though limiting grades to 0W30 and 5W30.

And only allows the grades I mentioned regardless

In Socal, the 5w50 is a good option, and will provide better wear protection at the slightly cost of fuel economy and HP.

I guess whatever is more important to you. I have run the 5w50 FS X2, and agree with the SP variants 5w50 and 0w40 look be the same additive package. The 5w50 should still be A40 approved. I have the SP varriant in my garage, and it still says A40.
