Mobil 1 did 4 years worth of testing to determine that their oil will protect the engine in the SEVERE duty that they see daily before agreeing to give their warranty / guarantee. Took them long enough
All reg M1 oils have had the 10K OCI warranty for many years. This is nothing new. M1 continues to do long term oil testing with fleets. Other oil co. need to report on their testing as well.

Thanks for that piece of information. Without it, I would have thought they were nuts going to synthetic for something that would normally be using severe service OCIs.

So much for the Federal Government's encouraging states to adopt 40 CFR part 279 in developing statewide programs related to using re-refined oil in the state government vehicles. LOL.
Look at it this way. Perhaps everyone is a winner. XOM gets to do another study and get some good marketing fodder if everything goes well. Maybe the state police are getting a good price - I'm sure they're not paying OTC prices. The police fleet gets the 10,000 mile warranty, the cars spend less time getting serviced, it's [hopefully] at an attractive price, and XOM gets to brag about another severe service study about how synthetic oil holds up better than conventional over excessively long intervals.

I don't think otherwise. However, XOM's taxi study must have been authored by someone who gets called "Captain Obvious" in the office on a regular basis.
I'll admit that I'm impressed that the Mass State Police are going to run Mobil's 0W-20 AFE in their patrol cars.

In reality we have too also take in account what state it is... I still remember the Big Dig.Also maybe someone made out very well with the deal maybe..Either way we will never know how really things work out and getting a ticket even now to a Red Sox game will be very tough!!Go Yankees!!!

I recall seeing a 90's vintage, green Mustang with no markings other than the lights and bars in the front of the car pulling someone over more than once when I used to drive through every few months. They also used to use mainly Chevy vans that were unmarked white with only the standard police light set-up on top, making them sort of hard to spot if not paying attention...

This whole deal sounds a lot like the firearms manufacturers competition for their sidearms contract. Often, the equipment gets supplied for no cost to the LEA in exchange for the PR.

What you see today on the market was started a very long time ago. Pennzoil was studying the development of motor oil formulations that target cleanliness since the early 90s. Pennzoil felt that engine cleanliness was critical to efficient engine operation and durability; industry studies support that view.
