The MSP might have been better off using TGMO if they want to go 10k OCI. [/quot
The Toyo 0-20 may have differant flow characteristics at various temps, but that doesn't make it a better 10K OCI oil than M1 0-20. I have been doing 10K OCIs with this oil for some time now in my Fords and find it to be excellant for 10K.

The Massachusetts State Police’s decision to establish the new fleet efficiency program stemmed from over four years of work with various ExxonMobil personnel who executed a comprehensive vehicle profile and oil analysis. In tandem with the Massachusetts State Police, ExxonMobil engineers examined the department’s equipment and vehicles, recommending the appropriate lubricants for each vehicle and providing the Mobil 1 limited warranty for their use, which is valid for up to 10,000 mile oil change intervals.

ExxonMobil will use this partnership as a live testing ground to demonstrate exceptional protection against engine wear, even under the extreme conditions that the Massachusetts State Police encounter each day.

Mobil 1 did 4 years worth of testing to determine that their oil will protect the engine in the SEVERE duty that they see daily before agreeing to give their warranty / guarantee. Took them long enough

All reg M1 oils have had the 10K OCI warranty for many years. This is nothing new. M1 continues to do long term oil testing with fleets. Other oil co. need to report on their testing as well.

Thanks for that piece of information. Without it, I would have thought they were nuts going to synthetic for something that would normally be using severe service OCIs.

So much for the Federal Government's encouraging states to adopt 40 CFR part 279 in developing statewide programs related to using re-refined oil in the state government vehicles. LOL.

Look at it this way. Perhaps everyone is a winner. XOM gets to do another study and get some good marketing fodder if everything goes well. Maybe the state police are getting a good price - I'm sure they're not paying OTC prices. The police fleet gets the 10,000 mile warranty, the cars spend less time getting serviced, it's [hopefully] at an attractive price, and XOM gets to brag about another severe service study about how synthetic oil holds up better than conventional over excessively long intervals.

Of course synthetic oil holds up better than dino, that's a given, why would you think otherwise?

AMEN! Some of the worst drivers in the state of Massconfusion are the State Police. They FLY down the highway. Easily 85+ MPH alll the time.

In reality we have too also take in account what state it is... I still remember the Big Dig.Also maybe someone made out very well with the deal maybe..Either way we will never know how really things work out and getting a ticket even now to a Red Sox game will be very tough!!Go Yankees!!!

They also used to use mainly Chevy vans that were unmarked white with only the standard police light set-up on top, making them sort of hard to spot if not paying attention...

Wonder if they use AFE in those assuming they're still in service?

Here in Syracuse they patrol in white vans with ladders on the top.

I never thought I'd see the day I'd be afraid of a Ford Econoline or Chevrolet Express on my back bumper.

I'd like to see how much they are paying

I see it all the time...85 MPH with no lights on. Must be 2-for-1 at Dunk's...

AMEN! . . . They FLY down the highway. Easily 85+ MPH all the time.

You wouldn't?

I sure would.

Again, this certainly seems like a rigorous test of Mobil's 20 weight AFE motor oil.

So fast = worst? AFAIC, Fast (usually) = Best!

This whole deal sounds a lot like the firearms manufacturers competition for their sidearms contract. Often, the equipment gets supplied for no cost to the LEA in exchange for the PR.

It can take more than a decade for a motor oil to go from development, field testing, certification, possible reformulation/tweeking, then final launch. What you see today on the market was started a very long time ago. Pennzoil was studying the development of motor oil formulations that target cleanliness since the early 90s. Pennzoil felt that engine cleanliness was critical to efficient engine operation and durability; industry studies support that view.

We had a Columbus police Lt. pass us as I was stopped at a red light, running the light and speeding down the road. I told my wife he was probably going to Hortons.

Sure enough, he went to the drive thru window.
