He might have some build up with going that long on dino, but mixing is just not a big deal. I wouldn't go crazy mixing 20W-50 with 0W-20, but I have mixed 10W-30 with 5W-20 and no problem at all. I wouldn't do it with a new or collectible car. It's not the best thing in the world either. Unlikely that some hack will randomly come up with the best motor oil on the planet.

NO I AM NOT TELLING PEOPLE TO DO THIS, AND I AM NOT SPEAKING FOR OR ABOUT AMSOIL - PLEASE DO NOT PM ME OR EMAIL AMSOIL TELLING THEM THAT PABLO IS TELLING PEOPLE TO MIX OILS. I AM NOT. I AM SIMPLY SAYING MOST ALL OILS WILL MIX OK

Thanks.

I agree with you on all points.

This guy should be the poster child for the expression
"Penny wise and pound foolish".
Now, the Sentra isn't on anyone's top ten list, or even top thirty, nor is an early 'nineties Caddy, but both machines have considerable utility value remaining, and they should be maintained accordingly.
Another phrase that comes to mind for the future of these two cars is:
"Self fulflilling prophesy".

I had a guy down the WM oil aisle the other day tell me he does 12k OCIs with Castrol GTX 20W-50 in his work truck....crazy stuff

But yea, mixing can't be bad, as long as they are all API certified oils, they gotta be compatible with each other.

Thanks Pablo, couldn't have said it better myself

disclaimer: I capitalized Hack so someone would recognize himself

I felt like he was saying even the most 'uneducated'; like me, of folks won't do any harm more than likely in general terms, but I suppose 'hack' is a poor term.

Don't have any problem at all with mixing...reasonably.

Have been making my own Syn blends for 22-3 years, but don't go crazy with an ounce of everything on sale.

These days, will buy stuff like Motul Ester on clearance, and use it to bolster a (likely GrIII) synthetic.

have been debating with myself for a long time about using either cheap 15w40, or straight 30 as a top up if necessary

So the neighbor's mixing his own brew should not be a concern but the 15K to 20k OCI on dino should be. To me that is way too long on dino and most oil filters out there.
