Just bought a new to me rig....2002 Chevy Blazer 4x4, 4.3 liter. Doing the usual research to see what everyone likes. I've read that Wix, my usual go to filterator, has changed a lot recently after becoming an M&H brand. Long story short, I also read that O'Reilly Microgard Select oil filters are a very good, solid alternative. I'll say that I put one of the green Microgard Select air filters in the Blazer and was impressed with it's construction for the price. I get a discount at my local O'Reilly's too. So what's the scoop on the MGS oil filters? Probably going to be using Valvoline Max Life 5W-30 with a 5k mile OCI to start....previous owner always used HiMi oil at her local Gulf oil change center. What say you, smarty oil geeks?

First M+H bought WIX almost 9 years ago. M+H offers great filters. However, WIX has been positioned more towards the "Service" market & not the "Consumer" market like Purolator is as an example. There are some exceptions that have shown good WIX construction though. However, Change of ownership can mean some items get upgraded while others go on the chopping block w/quality going down.

Oreilly's Auto Microgard branded filters seem to be using Premium Guard sourced filters & they have shown excellent build quality at a very good cost point that other filter companies have not always lived up to. Many examples here that caught my eye led me to recommend them w/little reservations. All that being said, they are lacking on transparency when it comes to ISO testing & efficiency claims. If you're ok w/whatever marketing claim they use w/o showing us official testing standards then it will serve you just fine.

Don't see many 4.3L left.. I had two of them 1999 Chevrolet Trailblazer & 1999 GMC Envoy (Both Black).

Some (PG CQ MS) are made in China ☹️ask me how I know there is one dangling under my Ford as I type.
Cute filter - but not a second time!

Parts counter guy didn't "alert" me when I purchased my OC "bundle"

I was busy looking down the center tube and performing a blow test - much to the guy's bewilderment

Microgard Select are a PG made filter. Currently some of the best quality we’re seeing hands down. Vietnam or China made are both excellent.

Are they manufactured in an ISO 2001:2015 certified production environment?

My worry lies with consistent filter media loading performance and porosity. We can pretty much assess the mechanics by eye and touch

This was produced in the Champ Labs facility. Fram has the same problem currently. Two .75”x .020” gaps. Results in constant bypass of dirty oil.

Been running the MSL51522 on my two gen III GM v8s. 5.3 suburban and Tahoe. Really like them.

I ran the Microgard Select and while the construction was good the problem I had was the filter had a bypass valve even though it was the correct filter listed for my 03 S10 4.3.

The 4.3 has a bypass valve built into the oil filter housing, when I seen that I decided to do a little research and O'reilly's lists it as having a bypass valve, I then went to PG Filters and checked the spec on their version which is the PG111EX and it also lists a bypass valve.

So since then I decided to no longer use their filters, gave Fram Endurance a run it did good but just ended up permanently going with OEM AC Delco going forward.

I'm running the MGS on my daughter's 2013 Ford Edge. No issues that I'm aware of. Looks and feels like a well made filter, and seems to have positive reviews from what I can find. I won't hesitate to use this filter again.

Sad to see the top filter manufacturer going to the dogs. Started with E -Core. Got worse with the Big filter manufacturer Jambalaya.

I recall all of my bought-new Fords in the past came with - what appears to - be white Champs for the OE factory install and not Motorcraft.

So does Champion Labs operate in a 9001:2015 /MQC environment? I suppose I could dig. This QMS doesn't prevent fall downs - but it sure helps - given the eventual town square pillory and switch spankings that management never wish to be exposed to.

I have been burned by Thai Denso and OEM Nissan China and Mexico filters since the mid 2000. Never an issue before that other than maybe some slight base crimp or gasket leaking with PurOlator.
Strange filter happenings" is why I joined this forum. And my reports of such just about got me laughed off this joint.

Please don’t stop posting what you find. Only place to go for c&p’s!!
Plan to keep on Truckin' (y)

I have a backlog of my stuff to c&p. Some odd ducks worth a gander. Some OE factory.
My Dremel died and I don't have a large pipe cutter ... what to do ...
Not inclined to buy a filter cutter. Maybe a new dremel. May do a couple c&p when I am getting all messy servicing the house Boiler/oil burner later this month. Lot of other life priorities moved up in the queue.

What issues have you seen from the Denso oil filters?
