I wonder what the difference between the Vietnam made Microguard/Select and the Made in China STP/XL would be considering made by the same company.
Good question. I am bit confused as I didn't think there was any relation to the STP lineup. I thought the Vietnamese "Microgard" was strictly an O'Reilly's filter.I wonder what the difference between the Vietnam made Microguard/Select and the Made in China STP/XL would be considering made by the same company.
The one for the OP's vehicle that STP XL is made in China. They are both made by Premium guard. I know the ones for my Jeep the STP regular is 11665 is made in Korea (made by First Brands I believe) and the 11665XL is made in China by Premium GuardAren't the STP XL's made in USA currently??.. They are always flipping around suppliers but I have seen several recently that were First Brands.

The STP XL oil filter for my truck is USA made by Champ Labs. I swung by Autozone earlier today b/c I was curious what it was. Looks exactly the same as what a Fram Tough Guard (Old 10k version) has been for my truck. Included a silicon O-ring.Aren't the STP XL's made in USA currently??.. That is correct! XL is $9.99 I didn't get to look at the Non-XL STP oil filter b/c it was sold out ($5.79)$9.99 ??

I can't complain... putting the same filter in a Fram box bumps the price to $20.Yeah I think your model is one product that you are getting a deal on at AZ for an extended life filter as those are much more expensive from any other brand on amazon or ebay or local.
Has anyone seen a "made in Vietnam/ "Premium Guard" MGL57712 at O'Reilly in a while? I just checked my local and they're all (they had 12) made in India. I'm wondering if the Vietnam/Premium Guard MGL was a blip or if it's regional or something (I'm in Seattle). I'll probably just get the MSL version but was hoping for the cheaper MGL since my daughter changes her oil pretty often and it seems like it would have been plenty good for her needs. Thanks for confirming what I was seeing/thinking too! Looks like Oreilly is going in the right direction! Someone is definitely paying attention at that company, which is very good!Or they're reading this forum! I wouldn't doubt it.
Another option if you have Advanced Auto Parts would be carquest premium. Most are Vietnam PG made.Has anyone seen a "made in Vietnam/ "Premium Guard" MGL57712 at O'Reilly in a while? Thank you. I ended up grabbing the MGS version since I was there and Advanced Auto is 30 min away.Another option if you have Advanced Auto Parts would be carquest premium. Most are Vietnam PG made.
I don’t blame you. MGS are great filters. I haven’t personally seen the India version so I don’t have an opinion yet.Thank you. I ended up grabbing the MGS version since I was there and Advanced Auto is 30 min away.
All dozen of the MGL57712 had the "made in India" sticker on the body. No country of origin on the box. They had similar text as the original post, with the "leak tested" language. The baseplate looked the same as the MGS, and the gasket & ADBV are black, vs red MGS. And they had the clear plastic seal/cap.
I'm thinking the India version may indeed still be PG made, but since I haven't heard anything about the India manufacturing, I decided to stick with the MGS Select version (interestingly, that one doesn't have any "made in" on the body, but the box says "Made in Vietnam."
As I was opening all 12 boxes to check country, the O'Reilly guys weren't amused: "why does it even matter"?

Or check the MicroGard Selects (also Vietnam made) at O'Reilly Auto.Another option if you have Advanced Auto Parts would be carquest premium. Most are Vietnam PG made.
would be interesting to cut open a regular MGL to compare!@talltree
I think you’re mixing up P/N’s. The regular Microguards are MGL. The Microguard Selects are MSL. There are no MGS. The pictures you posted are the regular Microguards MGL.

Yes, that's what I went with. Looks like a great filter.Or check the MicroGard Selects (also Vietnam made) at O'Reilly Auto.
The made in India version had a good weight to it and seemed well finished, but I thought they'd frown on me cutting it apart in the store.I don’t remember hearing about India made PG filters until the few weeks. Hope they meet the standards that the rest do.
The very best PG seem to be Vietnam made but the rest are so close as to be inconsequential.
You are right. I showed the standard MGLs in the photos -- I was hoping to get a made in Vietnam version but they only had India. So opted for the Select (MSL57712) instead. I'll update my earlier post with the correct info. Sorry about that.@talltree
