Microgard Select - No Love?

So no O reileys here where I am in central PA.
Fram is gone.
Super Tech is gone.
Purolator tears.
I for one don't want an over $10 filter.

Now what?
We HAVE TO get back to making stuff here!

Buy online ship to home?

You can order Oriellys online and get free shipping with 4 filter purchases.

Yep, not only is there free shipping above a certain order amount, there's also often a promo for some percentage off buy online ship to home orders. I think last month it was 15% off $100? I don't remember...

I believe you can get the same filter (Carquest Premium - white can) for $7.00 at Advance Auto .
The white can is a step down in quality from the Carquest Premium, but if you buy 12 at a time, the price is about half. Having checked yesterday, the Premium for my Honda was $9.99 while the case of 12 regular was $4.79 each. Singles of the white were $5.79.

IMHO, the oil filter is one of the most critical components in/on an engine. Buy quality if you plan on keeping it long-term or care about a potential future owner. If not, throw on whatever fits and don't give it a second thought. Use the money "saved" towards the purchase of a foo-foo coffee.

I bought 12 of the Carquest Premiums a couple of weeks ago after filter shortages started being reported due to First Brands stopping production. I asked the manager if I could get a discount for buying 12. She gave me 10% off.

Rock Auto has the “VARIOUS MFR PG4612EX Extended Life” for $5.07 each plus shipping. They might come under different names like Parts+, Premium Guard or others. They were clearance ones from AAP and others. PG4612EX lists 10k miles so you could go 2 changes like the CQP.

I ordered some and got the variety last time.

Just for my own information I plugged in numbers. 10 CQP's at AAP with the 15% discount over $35, with tax by me is $91.90.

Rock Auto = 10 of the VARIOUS MFR PG4612EX with shipping and tax, 5% discount code applied= $62.15 to my door.

I just counted and have 8 filters still for my 3 Honda's. I just did the CRV a couple weeks ago so that won't need for a while. My Accord has the Carquest EP and I want to use for a second 5k interval which should be soon so that won't need. Pilot will need one after Easter at next change. I'm good for now I think.

Manager helped some at least but over $100 when ordered online at AAP is 20% off and you can pick up in store or free shipping.

True, but seeing many reports of people receiving Made in China filters. As others have said here, the Made in China quality seems to be equal to those Made in Vietnam (though MiC uses nitrile seal while MiV uses silicone). The manager let me look through their stock so I could pick out the ones I wanted (Vietnam). The boxes simply say See Product for Country of Origin. They had 16 filters, which 12 were Made in Vietnam. When I left, they had 4 filters, all Made in China.

They still make oil filters here, just have to buy them. They will make more if we buy, go out of business if we don’t.
Puro tears is old news, now it’s black glue. The Boss solves that, no tears, no black glue, but it’s a little more $, not always, they have sales. Baldwin is American old school and has a full catalog. There is still a choice, doing versus not.

I just changed my oil & filter on my 2001 LeSabre. This time, I went with the Microguard Select (Always been a WIX fan) and I must say... for $11 it's a very nice, well made filter.

It came plastic wrapped and what I liked was the larger inlet holes and "holes" instead of louvers. (Just personal preference). When installing, I liked how the filter made contact with the gasket and it snugged-down really nice. (I've had WIX filters sometimes hit the bottom of the can.) Nice thick gasket on these.

I'm not going to get into efficiency specs and all... but based on what I can see and feel, this will be my new go-to filter. I don't understand why it's not getting more 'love'.
