2000 BMW E46 330ci
45k
M1 0W40
lotsa ticky-ticky valvetrain noise, cold or warm
GC seems better but that's in our E39 530i

1988 Mazda 323GTX
130k
M1 10W30
LOTSA ticking and even collapsed a lifter or 2 for a while.
Then the turbo died.
Never had probelms with M1 15W50...

1999 Hyundai Tiburon FX 2.0L 4 cylinder

118,000 miles

Mobil 1 Synthetic 10w30

Slightly louder wear noise during acceleration.

1997 Lexus LX450 (Toyota Landcruiser) 4.5L I6
89k mi.
M1 0W-40
No difference in noise level between M1, GC, PP in the xW-30/40 weights I use.

1992 Ford Aerostar 4.0L V6
80k mi.
M1 5W-30
No difference in noise level between M1, GC, PP in the xW-30/40 weights I use.

PS: Funny how not a single person with the "bucket of bolts" noise problems bothered to respond in an earlier thread I posted asking for recording samples of this noise.

Audi 2.0t FSI

M1 0w40 . . . more tapping sounds than GC 0w30 on both startup and when the oil is up to temp.

2006 Mazda 6
M1 5w-30
Swapped factory dino fill at 4100mi
Now at 8100mi
no noticable noise on M1
No oil burn either.

2003 Ford Ranger. 7,000 mi. into second run of 10,000 mi. with Mobil 1.

2003 Subaru Forester. 8,000 mi. into second run of 10,000 mi. with Mobil 1 EP.

No noise increase (or decrease) in either engine.

2004 Honda CR-V

Castrol GTX 5W-20 between 5000 and 30000 miles. At 30000 miles, put in Mobil 1 5W-20. Now has 34,280 miles, and actually quieter.

Put in M1 5w20 at 10k.
It's as quiet or quieter than the previous oils.
Still using the OEM YZZF1 filters.
I'm sold.
At least until the UOA I do on this batch.

Scott

No noises at all. In fact, M1 reduced NVH in this application over any non-PAO oil. Nice and quiet.

Just changed it to M1 0w-20 SL (156K), the outcome is the same: a quieter and less harsh engine than other oils.

2004 Tahoe 4.8L
29,000 switched to M1 5W-30 now has 32,500
No Noise
No Leaks

2005 Equinox 3.8L
21,000 switched to M1 5W-30 now has 24,000
No Noise
No Leaks

Funny how some report "noise" with M1 and then a poll like this reveals 95% quiet...hmmmm

1992 Olds cutlass ciera 3300. Year 2000 vintage M1 5w30. Previous oil cheap dino 10w30. Made a real ping-y type noise the second it went in.

To balance this none of my saturns or my dodge 2.5 have ever made noise on any oil.

I have a 2005 and it's more noisy with the same oil than it was with the factory fill. Granted, it's as noisy as it was with Amsoil 0w30.
I know, know, know that I'm not doing any damage as proven by UOA's with this car/oil, but the noise at initial hot startup is certainly concering.

2003 Nissan Maxima. M1 5W30 in at 8000 or so miles. Promptly used one quart in 1000 miles. Car burned no oil prior, and none thereafter that quart.

Changed to Amsoil 5W30 after 5K or so, was quieter at all speeds. For fun, changed back to the M1 at the next change - louder engine sounds again. Then changed to Redline, quiet again. Then I traded it.

With the M1 it was nosier, but nothing NEAR the "marbles in a coffee can". But noticeable.

Now have a M1 mix in my mom's Avalon - sounds fine.

2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 2WD 5w-30 winter 10w-30 summer 55000 miles K&N FIPK, Flowmaster catback,headers, Jet power chip.

All three are the same, switched to syn at 500 miles,6 month OCI, no oil consumption, runs smooth as silk with no noise

'97 Aerostar, M1 0w-30 from 4K. No noise increase and no consumption. Switched to Rotella 5W-40 at around 90K, since my stock of cheap M1 0W-30 was gone.
'97 Accord 2.2, started M1 5W-30 at about 65K. No noise or consumption issues.
'99 Accord 2.4, M1 5W-30 from new (changed factory fill at 1K). No noise or consumption issues.
'88 Mercedes W201, 2.3, tried M1 15W-50 at 115K. No noise but heavy consumption. Went back to Castrol GTX 20W-50. Consumption very low.
