2005 Chevy Uplander 3.5L (wife's car)
11,500
Standard 5W30
Quiet as a mouse.

1998 Buick Century 3.1 ( Mom's car)
43,000
Standard 5W30
Quiet as a mouse.

2005 Toyota Camry SE 2AZ-FE 4cyl

5600 miles

Mobil 1 5w-30

Engine very quiet, much smoother with M1 than with factory fill (changed at 1800m) or
Mobil 7500 5w-30 (replaced at 5000m with M1)

2000 Saab 9-5 SE
3.0L V6 turbo
~30,000 miles
M1 10W-30

Rattled like the proverbial marbles in a coffee can during AM startup. Switched to GC, noise was greatly reduced.

Not exactly M1, but....
2004 GMC Sierra
5.3L Vortec V8
~30,000 miles
Mobil Drive Clean 7500 5W-30
Very noticeable piston slap during AM startup. Prior OCI was GC, very little piston slap. Went back to GC, piston slap gone.

No more Mobil products (well, maybe except for gas...) in my vehicles ever again.

1986 Toy Pickup
22R
195k miles

Had M1, various grades, in it since almost new
Sounded like a bucket of bolts

Switched to Castrol
Much quieter

87 Volvo 745 2.3L I4 Turbo and 97 960 I6 2.9L 24V
both run pretty quiet with the 10W30 M1.
The 960 did quiet down a lot after an Auto-Rx treatment. It had 10W30 Castrol Syntec 10W30 in it before the treatment. I give more weight to the Auto-Rx cleaning having the most influence on the decrease in noise.

Description of noise.

None. Equally as quiet using dino or Mobil 1.

That's funny. When I was using Castrol GC 10w30, my 2.4 taco engine was clacking like a diesel vw rabbit. I went back to Mobil 1 EP 10w30 with 10 oz's of Militec, and all is well and quiet once again.

2001 Ford Ranger 2.5L I4

77,000 miles

Current fill: Mobil 1 Truck & SUV 5W30

Previous fills: Motorcraft, Havoline, Castrol, Valvoline (all dino/blends) 5W30 (possibly a couple fills with 5W20)

The truck actually seems to be MORE quiet with Mobil 1. No unusual noises at all.

2003 GMC Sierra 4x4.

84,000 miles.

Mobil 1 - Standard.

Noise: Tapping noise at Idle.

Noise: Shearing type noise at high RPM's - cold engine - going down the same hill when the transmission hangs on to 2nd gear a bit too long (high "empty RPM's).

1999 Toyota Tacoma 3.4 V6
Some time ago, probably around 85,000 miles on odometer
Mobil 1 SL 5w30
No noise.

2004 Honda Accord 3.0 V6
Some time ago, probably around 30,000 miles on odometer
Mobil 1 SL 5w20
No noise.

HEY- i have very recent info right here- mothers car,
99 camry
2.2L

JUST put in M1 5w30 last week- and my mom said that the car seemsed a little more louder, and she knows nothing about oil. When i start the car in the mornings- i get a 'clack clack clack' and the car feels/sounds over all- a little bit more 'rough'. We're going to try Synpower at the end of this 7k oci

2002 Camaro, 2000 Firebird, 2001 Rav4, and 1997 Grand Prix - all M1 tapping victims... all switched to valvoline of some kind and tapping disappeared.

1996 Crown Vic
4.6 w/ 150k miles
M1 5-30 (7k OCI)
No Noise.
Increase OIl consumption 100% Compared to Maxlife Syn

'00 Silverado (Alwayas had very minimal CSK)
5.3 w/ 20k miles
M1 5-30 (1yr OCI 5k miles)last OCI
Bosch Premium Filter
No Noise Increase (Pennz Dino Before)
No Oil Consuption

M1 EP (5-30/10-30 can't recall)
M1 EP Filter
25k miles (current OCI)
No Noise
No Oil Consumption

My opinion...

M1 is great to start low milage vehicles on a syn diet.

M1 not good for high milage vehicles (my Vic was already on Syn for a long time)

Can not comment on noise.

2004 Saab 9-3, 2.0l I4 turbo

Amazingly quiet and smooth machine!

2003 Ford Taurus, 3.0l V6 Vulcan

M1 5W20, replaced dealer "mystery fill"
Noticeably smoother and less noise
