truly physically addicted, I am

it may take me almost 4 full days to clear myself...maybe longer....

The first day actually OK
2nd day sluggish - a couple sharp headaches
3rd day - Today - absolutely crappy, just nasty splitting head, dull and death

Fall asleep reading anything.

why am I doing this?

I'm lucky, caffiene has almost no effect on me. A couple summers ago, when I had a summer job at a lumber mill, I'd drink 44 ounces of Mountain Dew by 11:00 AM every day. It couldn't keep me awake, and I felt no effects from just stopping after three months of that.

I know a guy who decided to stop using any products with caffeine. He also complained of killer headaches. He couldn't figure it out. They got so bad that he went to the emergency room. They finally came to the conclusion that he was experiencing withdrawl symptoms. He started to get better after a few days.

I stopped drinking coffee twice in my life. First time, ten years ago, nearly killed me! Extreme headaches, lethargy, irritability. After about a month I'd realized that I just wanted to drink coffee again...so I did. Never felt better! I tried to stop a few years ago once again. Why? Because I hate being dependant on anything!! What happened? I lost and I LOVE coffee!! I will never try to quit again either.

"Been there, Done that, Got the headache"

I've quit caffeine several times before, always a miserable experience and always craved it afterwards. I'm totally with andrews on this one.

Hi, I'm Larry and I'm an addict.

HI LARRY!

Caffeine when ingested correctly is very good for the body. I prefer natural supplements like Vitamin B Complex and Green Tea Extract for my extra energy. I've gotten 12 hours of sleep in the past 4 days and I've been just fine.

More of an experiment than anything.....when I die I'll reach for a cup.

Seriously - for me this proves that it is physically addictive.

PS I don't drink coffee - very strong green tea!

Caffine is a phsycoactive drug, just like marijuana or any other narcotic. Granted, it's not as strong but it is just as addictive in some people and will create withdrawel symptoms. Like any true physical/chemical addiction, your looking at years to become completely weaned off of it, if not ever!

Hi, I'm David and I'm also an addict.

"HI DAVID!"
i also like drinking iced tea without sugar, seems to really wake me up without the jitters!and it's good for you, too!

To be fair, the comparison of caffeine to marijuana, in relation to the psychoative properties, is extreme in the least. Although I will agree that the addiction to caffeinated drinks can be a real monkey to get off ones back.

Andrews, you obviosuly have never taken a pshycology class (and I never learned to spell syhcology

) I never said the actual physical affects are the same, but the addiction CAN be just as strong. Re-Read my post

This reminds me of the movie Half-Baked. Bob Saget (guy from America's funniest videos; the original host): "you ever sucked $&%@ for caffine" "Caffine is not a drug" hehehe

I have often felt the need to advise some people to wean themselves off of oxygen use.

There used to be an old doctor in Friendship, NY who would diagnose an occational patient with feces of the cerebrum. I always knew who the doctor was when I picked these people up in the ambulance and asked them about their past medical history. Unfortunatly this great man pasted away a few years back - still practicing medicine well into his 90's.

Pablo,

Perhaps you should ween yourself gradually. I have been drinking the same amount of fluid (coffee) each day, but making it with less coffee grounds, eventually supplementing the mix with decaf.

I tried to go "cold turkey" a few years ago and, wow, I couldn't focus and my head was killing me.

These I've had ... and they are the worst I've had. Repeat after me: trimethylxanthine (C8H10N4O2) is your friend.

I never had a problem with addiction to caffeine. I drink black tea and coffee on a very irregular basis. Sometimes I don't have any for a week or two, sometimes a couple of each a day. Neither one really affects me noticeably. However, my girlfriend runs around like a wind-up toy after having a large cup of coffee.

Working funny hours, on my days off I'd find myself barely functioning sometimes. So I'd guzzle 24 oz of coffee. When that didn't work I'd take a nap. Talk about sending one's body mixed signals!

well, at least youre getting a lot of good fluids, complete with the polyphenols and the antioxidants. It seems that new studies come out very often praising green tea more and more.

I look at coffee and tea very much like ice cream, desserts, milkshakes, hamburgers, juicy steaks, etc.: The flavor is excellent, so one, maybe even two servings to enjoy it... but have any more and Ive got problems.

Personally, I wouldnt want the addiction part. As good as coffee and tea is, I find it better to derive my energy from good health, fitness, and listening to my body and getting sleep. Whether the caffiene was taken on purpose for energy, or is just a side effect of enjoying the beverage, I can't imagine that it is that great for you, but how much you want to ingest is your choice. I would think that to change things up for the body, to get off, sleep off the withdrawl nasties, and allow the body to regroup, then reconsider just how much you want to/need to drink afterwards and continue would be the best bet...

All I know is that any sort of headache is TERRIBLE.
