I’m not bashing any brand but that should not have happened that soon I’ve never had that happen with any other brand that quickly. The manufacturer has standards which their parts are made too so that means they weren’t very high quality.

My aunt wants one, we took one for a test drive and it's incredible inside and out. Comfortable with tons of tech. But dealers here are wanting $5k over MSRP.

You crack me up. This Hyundai/Kia unreliability nonsense is literally just that, nonsense. People have to quit living in the past. This isn't 15+ years ago when they made dumpsters on wheels. Yes they've had a couple bad engines, but they're really taking care of customers on that. You mention Ford, which has screwed over every one of those Focus/Fiesta owners with the constant bad transmissions.

It is not nonsense! My Sonata had a lifetime short block warranty due to the class action lawsuit over spun bearings in the Theta motors. The class action lawsuit included vehicles up to 2019!!

I was fine with them being "not quite as good" when they were cheap. But now they are asking class leading prices for the Telluride? Forget it, man. Buy something else.

Admittedly, I’ve never owned a Kia/Hyundai. But the owners I know say they’re good for about 100k, then they start falling apart. For some people that may be fine, but I expect 200-300k out of my vehicles.

Seems like hitting100k miles is pretty easy theses days, I personally know of a couple of people who surpassed 400k on their vehichles using no specific oil or filters (etc.)...just went to the local “quick oil change” place. IMO ...WAAAAY too much emphasis on oil/filter brand choices, But, to each his/her ownI guess.

Like any vehicle there’s always that one bad apple. A coworker had a 2010 Kia Soul with something like 170K. Basic maintenance, timing belt, etc. No issues with it. Got himself a 2020 Soul.

It is good when they stand behind your products and give you a lifetime warranty.

But it's a warranty you hope never to have to use. It's at best a huge inconvenience, and at worst a safety issue. Safety is why they had the software update that put the car into limp mode if it detected any unusual noises. At least that hopefully gave you enough to get to the shoulder if you were on the freeway.

I was willing to deal with this because I've gotten all my Korean cars cheap. I've had 3 of them, and generally they gave me good service. I got my Sonata 4 years old with 40K for $7500. That was nowhere in the ballpark of prices for any other brand of similar vehicle with similar mileage and age. And generally speaking we did not use it as a family car, bur rather my commuter car. 100% worth it in this case.

But if they were expensive? I would have just gotten something else. My experience with these cars is that they're not screwed together as well as the Japanese makes, and maybe not even the American ones.

The new car smell has not yet worn off the Tellurides out there. 3 or 4 years down the road will people be happy with them as they are now? It remains to be seen. In my opinion, based on my experience, I wouldn't be willing to pay premium money for any Hyundai or Kia. My $0.02, and YMMV.

Don’t do it. I’m surprised no one has mentioned the big recall about the smell they make and it happens to all of them so they are trying to figure it out same with the Palisade. I would never buy a Kia anyway they have just proven to be too unreliable especially the new ones. Get something more reliable like a Ford or Toyota.

I've never owned a Kia and have little interest in them. But...

I know multiple happy Kia owners with a range of models and model years... all happy. One guy put over 150K on a Sedona over 10 years, with only one major repair, otherwise routine maintenance. Then traded it in with some good value back.

No smell complaints.

The smell is only on the newer ones it’s the leather they made the seats from. I know someone who had one they returned it and got something else because they are recalled so you can do that because they haven’t found a fix for it yet.

We have 2 KIAs now, and owned 2 Rio's years ago. They've come a long way. I might suggest that Toyota and Honda are past their prime...our last 2 Hondas were problematic, including the 14 Accord the daughter still drives. The KIAs have been flawless. I recognize that some people don't like Korean cars but I have no issue.

And I'm cool with that. I like the Telluride and Palisade but there were rebates on the last of the old-style Sorento so I bought one.

When I was still working at an independent, the Theta 2 failures hadn't become well known yet (now everyone knows about it). Back then we saw a lot more issues with FCA than with Hyundai or Kia.

Front end parts failing at 20-40k miles, electrical problems and brand new vehicles with rust spots all over the oil pan and other areas of undercarriage was what turned me off on pretty well all FCA stuff. The caravans have been really good vehicles overall, but the trucks and cars were mostly pretty disposal vehicles.

I gave my son my 2009 Elantra back in 2013 and it currently has 202,000 miles on it. It has been flawless. About a year ago the automatic transmission started slipping a bit here and there but he’s still driving it. It has no value at this point so he said he’ll just drive it till it dies. That’s the only Kia/Hyundai product we have owned.

There is now a fix. They have isolated the smell to the headrests in the upper trim models with leather. KIA has changed suppliers for this part. They will try to deodorize the headrests-or replace them.
Unlike some manufacturers-it appears KIA (as well as Hyundai) acknowledge issues.

Yeah I seen they had gotten a fix which is good. And yes that is a plus to them acknowledging the issues.

It's kinda tough to not acknowledge headrests that smell like garlic.
