Oldest daughter looking to get a ‘23 KIA Seltos SX. Any input from Seltos owners is appreciated - the good, the bad and the ugly.
Thanks

d'ont get a 2023 seltos sx unless you want to maybe save a bit of money. the 2024 will be out very soon, this spring and has195hp engine instead of 175hp and 8 speed automatic transmission, instead of the 7 speed dual clutch. and the 2024 look much better than the 2023. i would seriously consider one if i was in the market for this kind of vehicle.

I’d wait for the 2024 model with a conventional/torque converter automatic transmission rather than the DCT (base engine models with have the CVT either way)

Hyundai/Kia’s conventional autos are generally solid, but their DCTs are spotty, but then again if you aren’t keeping it outside the warranty period it probably won’t matter - but then resale may rear it’s head.

Did they fix the engine issues? I remember noise about engine failures early on when this model came out.

Yes, it’s fixed. It was some early Seltos manufactured late 2019 through Oct 2020 (Sold as MY 2021) and other H/K models made in that time that used the 2.0L Nu MPI. Some of the piston rings they used didn’t have proper heat treatment they said.

Yeah, the 2024’s sound like the better choice, but her Jeep lease is up next month.
The Seltos would be a 3-year lease.
In that case I’d test drive and if no glaring problems or annoyances pop up, happy trails! (except no trails since the DCT will overheat with extended creeping/slipping)

And of course there’s the whole subcompact crossover segment waiting too, I expect leasing to open up options a lot more.

I don’t see the Seltos on the road in my area. I thought they were popular?

The Seltos is popular (relatively speaking), but supply is limited by the number shipped over from Korea (versus the Georgia-assembled Sportage).

and once someone cross-shops a Seltos with the bigger Sportage, the typical person likely chooses the Sportage.
