Ok, I bought a Jag XTYPE AWD with the 2.5 liter v6 and will be changing the oil in this with in the next week or so.

I picked up PP in HD at 2.60 a quart but its 10w30 and I think it calls for 5w30.
Would you guys run the 10w30 in it?
I really dont feel like getting M1 5w30 at this point but dont know if I should run 10w30 with the CVVT in the engine.

This will get 5k 0CI and be driven by my wife most of the time 20 miles each way to work along with all women runs during the day.

Thanks

The only difference to your engine between 10w30 and 5w30 would be if you were dealing with very cold temperatures, and since you're using full syn, the differences are even less substantial. 10w30 PP will be fine in that car. My Frontier and Sport Trac both call for 5w30 and they've both got 10w30 in them right now. It's anywhere from 80 - 110 degrees in my garage this time of year, so the difference isn't even worth mentioning.

so no worry about using it in this application.

I also ran 0w40 in 00 Cirrus with the 2.5 mitsu v6 for the last 70k miles with great results. I might move to 15k mile changes from current 10 on this car what do you guys think? Mostly highway with some traffic and is ran hard but 10k miles comes every 3 months or so.

Well, I can understand why you'd want to extend your OCIs, as you stand to drop a lot of cash on oil changes with the mileage you're piling on. I just get nervous with OCIs like 15K. The oil MAY be fine as far as its add pack and vicous stability, but it's just so DIRTY by that point. Isn't this the famed "Sludgemonster" V6 I've heard mentioned in the Sebring, or is it different in the Cirrus? This is probably just me, but I change oil early...but my economic situation is quite different than yours due to your monthly mileage. 10K in 3 months....ouch.

Now this is the mitus 2.5 liter not the 2.7 in the intrepid concord.
The engine is spotless on the inside just had the valve cover off to put new gasket on.
It does burn about 1/2 quart every 10k miles but thats no big deal since it sees redline daily.

My father in law has the 2.7 in his intrepid. He switched to 5w30 m1 at around 50k miles and the engine is clean as well on the inside. I would be more worried about the trans at this point in the intrepid then then the engine.

Maybe I will run PP for 10k miles and see how it feels at first. Car has 113k miles on it now and runs fine.

Was thinking about having it done at 10k miles and see what it shows me. If all is well I will push it.

I would love to have 1 year 40k mile changes

Jaguar has always specified 10K (mile) oil changes. Most of those earlier cars had 2 to 2.5 gallon oil sumps. They still have that same interval, even though the sumps in the AJ-V6 and AJ-V8 engines are smaller than the old I-6 and V12 engines.

FWIW, I always change mine at 3K, even on the V12 that has a 2.5 gallon sump. No way would I go 10K, much less 15K. On my wife's 2004 Xj8, Jaguar will change it every 10K for free, but I change it myself every 2K because of her short trips.

Oil is cheap. New Jaguars are not. That's all you need to remember.

edit: I use 5w30 in the Xj8, or 10/30 or 5w40 in the V12.

The 10k OCI are on the Cirrus with the 2.5 v6.
I will be changing the oil on the jag at 5k with PP since it is on sale.

I think the sump is like 7 quarts so it is kind of big. I was just worried because of the Variable Valve timing, if nothing to worry about its going in this weekend.

If its your first OCI of synthetic, I prefer to change it out at 5-6k, then run the next OCI longer. Mobil suggests (or used to) this for using M1 the first time.

LOL I was thinking the same thing. But at least the Jag has better heads.

That's guite a large sump for that little engine, so that's good to hear. Six to seven quarts is about all I get out of the sump of the AJ-V8.

My sister has a 2004 X type with the 3 liter AJ-V6, and she lets the dealer do 10K intervals on it. It gets flogged pretty hard, so you should be fine with 5K intervals.

I'm sure your wife will enjoy the car. Three of the four Jaguars I have bought have been for my wife. The V12 car was for me ...

Ford Mondeo and the X type have very little in common. Everyone thinks that it is one and the same but there is very little less then 20% that is taken from Mondeo.
Jag did the whole engine except for the block on the car.

I switched out to PP in my Cirrus today and in the Jag.
My Q45 is being sold so I put fresh Mobil 5000 in.

Will see how she holds up.
