Amsoil Syn Blend 5w30, giving it a shot

Update:

Well this weekend, I will be doing a full oil change. And while i am at it it is time to do gears and tranny/ tcase.

When I bought this for my daughter, I changed all the fluids, this was two years ago.

With the advisement of @Pablo , i went with the 75w110 over the 80w90 or 75w90. Vehicle has 183k, and figured it was time.

This came today I ordered it on Friday the 24th quick shipping! and somehow the stuff is still in the containers and not leaking everywhere like from walmart or amazon....weird🧐

I also ordered today a oil test kit from LSJR, going to try his service. He has a few videos on this product as a VOA, so I figured it would fit.

it passed inspection from Nugget, my cat.

I wonder why this oil is not listed on the Dexos site as being approved but IS mentioned as Dexos 1 Gen 3 approved by Amsoil...I recall Amsoil listing their oils exceeded Dexos in the past but was curious by this...glad to see it's working well with Daughters GM 5.3...

I know of some family members that would be perfect candidates for the Synthetic Blend offering by Amsoil. I totally get why Amsoil would see a market to indie or quick lube shops where customers want to feel like they are getting a value above conventional offering but without paying for “full synthetic” prices.

My dad is one of those old school, closed-minded individuals (bless his heart lol), that holds onto prior experiences and beliefs back in the way synthetics originally did cause seal swelling in some vehicles that had been on a diet of conventional. His fear is rooted in that past situation.

Obviously, synthetics and especially high mileage blends that have “seal conditioners” are now done in balance. I think the Amsoil blend therefore could be a better product than the synthetic blends he opts for at quick lube places that are offering a more entry level product. I personally would prefer Amsoil to a run of the mill blend, because I trust their brand with regards to price point for what you get. I doubt you get a starting oxidation as high as 30+ on just any synthetic blend.

My dad is the same way. Refuses to use synthetic because he’s never had a problem with conventional. Can’t convince an 85 year old to change 😂

On a side note this Amsoil blend may very well outperform many otc synthetics. Im not opposed to trying it.

Guys your dad’s age like to go with what has worked for them over the decades and likely the cheapest.
Myself? I’m getting too fat and old to jump on bandwagons, it hurts to think and also living in the past.

Today I got the report from Speed Diagnostix, but I am haviong an issue converting it to a file type that can ne uploaded on this site. Why cant we load PDFs @wwillson ?

I'm surprised nobody asked unless I missed it. I read under the pdf file Amsoil says it's over 50% synthetic...
I give them credit for specifying that information.

What is surprising to me, in my limited knowledge, are the "low numbers" of zinc and phosphorus. Way lower than what I would expect, but the wear levels where still good.

In the pics above I showed a pic of the magnetic drain plug, and it being "dirtier than I would expect or remember it to be". Perhaps the "higher than expected" wear metals, are a result of some cleanup happening. Entirely possible.

Viscosity is really close to VOAs that I have seen for this oil, at 9.9, so the viscosity did not change much if at all.

The oxidation value from a posted VOA to this example are much different, not sure what that means
