I don't blame ya for changing it out, I would do the same thing.
And the low mileage doesn't necessarily mean too soon, IF you've been driving the vehicle extremely hard then it would also probably be a good idea IMO.
Although we all know from experience that 10w30 will not necessarily cause eminent destruction in normal winter conditions (or atleast not for me as I blissfully ran 10w30 in the winter as my "thin" oil as a youngster)
With the knowledge we have learned from here and the advancements in engines and oils why not go with a 5w or better yet a 0w for winter.
And with the oil recycling that we now have available everywhere (which I hope you did) then we are not really wasting oil, are we?
