Is Mobil 1 FS 0w-40 now API SP rated? Good for LSPI prevention?

I’ve seen a thread recently that was titled “M1 0w40 vs Castrol 0w40” and in there OVERKILL mentioned M1 FS 0w40 is now SP rated. The PDS from M1’s website now meantions that the FS 0w40 now meets or exceeds API SN+ and SP.

So does that mean the calcium content has been decreased, and/or the zinc content went up?

Has the LSPI prevention have been addressed with the FS 0w40 since it is now SP rated or is it all just “on paper”. The 15w50 is also now SP rated.

If it really is SP rated, I think the FS 0w40 will be my go-to oil.

Anybody got more info?

SN+ = API LSPI test
SP = API LSPI and GTDI timing chain wear tests.

Straight from the American Petroleum Institute database website: Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 is API SN licensed. So it's not SN Plus or SP licensed. It must be a misprint on Mobil's website.

I'm gonna have grandkids, and Mobil will still blend this formulation. 🤣 🤣 🤣

Don't get me wrong, it's really good oil. What I don't get is some people's expectation for this oil to be blended to a API SP specification. There are plenty of other 0W-40 oils that already are like Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0W-40.

And what do you mean “on paper”? It either has the API license or it doesn’t.

Do you have a concern over LSPI? What’s the application?
I said on paper because from my understanding , the FS 0w40 is a full saps oil, and I don’t see how a full saps oil can get the SP rating.

The oil has both A3/B4 and API SP rating. And since it’s now SP rated, is it now a mid saps oil? Or is it still a full saps oil, and if so how is it an SP oil?

Shell Helix ultra 0w-40 is api sn plus, but lost the Porsche A40 approval. Can it be that M1 0w-40 dont want to trade Porsche A40 approval for the api sn plus?
I haven't seen a 0w-40 api sn plus euro oil with Porsche A40 approval 🤔
But i could be wrong

Check this out, all full-SAPS motor oils with many manufacturer approvals and API SP licensed:
  • Shell Helix Ultra SP 5W-40 - API SP (they still make the API SN version as well) - ACEA A3/B4
  • Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40 and 0W-40 - both API SP additive packages - ACEA A3/B4
  • Quaker State Euro 5W-40 - API SP - ACEA A3/B4
  • There are plenty others if you keep looking.

How often is that Database actually updated online? 15W-50 only says SN, but I've seen a video recently where there was a VOA of the new 15W-50 that says SP on the bottle and was clearly reformulated, I don't think XOM would make false claims on API ratings.

This must be the video in question and nowhere in the video was there an API SP donut shown:

Mobil 1 themselves claim 15W-50 to be API SN: https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/for-personal-vehicles/our-products/products/mobil-1-15w-50/

The API SN license expires in 2023 for 15W-50.

The database is accurate and gets updated every time a license is granted, renewed, etc.

If Mobil says it's SP, it's SP. They are one of the key members of the API and they self-certify.

I'm curious to see how much the formula changed; how much calcium was reduced.

The current stock photo on Walmart shows SP,https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-1-Advanced-Full-Synthetic-Motor-Oil-15W-50-5-qt/20713647 , so I guess new stock should be SP.
If I had to hazard a guess, they will wait for the current stock to clear and the API SN license to expire. I bet when it's renewed it will say API SP.

If you recall I ran out to buy some when I first saw it on their website. Maybe they changed the formulation, maybe not. All I found in the stores around here and online was API SN. They made mistakes before on their website and IMHO whoever is in charge of that should either be fired or set straight as information accuracy doesn't seem to alway be a priority.

[Edit]
I hope we'll see it in stores soon... at least by 2024  I hate it when they advertise something and then we can't find it in stores.

I guess it would look similar to this:
