Is a weekly long drive enough to entirely counteract short-trip issues?

I don't know, tough to tell.

Like me, for instance, I drive 500 highway miles Monday through Friday. One hour each way. But weekends I'm short tripping here and there. Then Monday comes and it's back to my usual commuting routine. Does this mean the short stuff on the weekends is wiped out because of the favorable weekly drive? I don't know. Don't think anyone really does.

I do monthly trips of an hour or longer on a garage kept Buick 2.0T, don't see any foreseeable problems, 5K oci.

Or just go by the GM Oil Life Monitor, which takes all of this into account.

^ Or just limit the number of cold starts per oil change. Every long trip begins as a short trip.
